The highly anticipated Indian mythological epic, Ramayana, is set to make its global debut at San Diego Comic-Con (SDCC) 2026. Producer Namit Malhotra, director Nitesh Tiwari, and lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Yash will reveal an exclusive first look during a dedicated panel on July 23 at 3:15 pm PDT in Ballroom 20, one of the convention's largest venues.
Global Ambition at Comic-Con
The decision to showcase Ramayana at SDCC underscores the filmmakers' ambition to position the project for a worldwide audience. Ballroom 20, known for hosting major studio presentations and accommodating roughly 4,800 attendees, provides a significant platform for this strategic international push. The panel description teases Ramayana as “one of the biggest cinematic undertakings in Indian film history,” promising a sweeping retelling of the ancient epic.
“Comic-Con gives it a global platform; the idea is to present the mythological drama not just as an Indian epic but as a cinematic spectacle to the world.”
This appearance marks Ramayana as only the second Indian film, following Kalki 2898 AD, to secure such a prominent slot at SDCC, traditionally dominated by Hollywood franchises.
Cast, Crew, and Release Details
Mounted on an estimated budget of Rs 4,000 crore, Ramayana boasts a star-studded ensemble. Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of Lord Rama, with Sai Pallavi as Sita and Yash portraying the antagonist Ravana. Sunny Deol is cast as Hanuman, and Ravi Dubey as Lakshman. The film also features Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Lara Dutta, Arun Govil, Sheeba Chaddha, and Adinath Kothare in key roles.
The two-part saga is slated for a Diwali 2026 release for Part 1, with the second installment planned for Diwali 2027.
Pre-Comic-Con Trailer Launch
Before its Comic-Con reveal, reports suggest a grand trailer launch is being planned for July 18 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. This event is expected to offer Indian audiences an extensive preview of the film.
Musical Maestros
The film's soundtrack is a collaboration between legendary composers Hans Zimmer and A.R. Rahman. While not officially confirmed, there are discussions about a wider international promotional campaign that could include live performances by the musical duo.
Producer Namit Malhotra stated, “We’re telling a story that belongs to the world, and Comic-Con allows us to introduce that vision to a global audience,” highlighting the team's commitment to delivering a cinematic experience with universal appeal.
