Bollywood actor Chandrachur Singh has initiated legal proceedings in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, by filing a formal complaint against several family members, alleging the fraudulent appropriation of his ancestral inheritance. The actor, known for his roles in films like Maachis and Josh, accused his aunt, Gaytri Devi, two cousins, and four others of conspiracy.
According to the First Information Report (FIR) lodged at Rorawar police station, Singh claims the accused forged the signature of his late grandfather, Thakur Harender Pal Singh, a prominent landowner from Jalalpur village. The disputed will, allegedly executed in 1997, is at the heart of the Chandrachur Singh inheritance dispute. Singh asserts that his grandfather was critically ill and physically incapable of signing legal documents at that time.
Singh contends that this forged will was then used to systematically strip his late father, Captain Baldev Singh, of his rightful share in the extensive ancestral estate. He pointed out that his father was not in Aligarh when the document was supposedly drafted, and another uncle, Puniya Pratap Singh, had already passed away before his grandfather's death. Utilizing this allegedly fraudulent will, the accused reportedly sold off significant properties, including agricultural land and the family's historic haveli, over several years.
Family Background and Public Scrutiny
The family's considerable landholdings and the ancestral haveli in Aligarh have long been under public attention due to their aristocratic lineage. Chandrachur Singh’s father, Baldev Singh, served as a former Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Khair, Uttar Pradesh. His mother, Krishna Kumari Devi, is the daughter of the Maharaja of Bolangir in Odisha, further highlighting the family's prominent status.
Counter-Allegations and Ongoing Investigation
The inheritance dispute became public last year when Gaytri Devi dismissed Chandrachur Singh’s claims as baseless, maintaining that the 1997 will was authentic. She, in turn, accused the actor of attempting to falsely implicate her. Both Chandrachur Singh and his brother had previously presented their side of the property argument to local authorities at the Jalalpur police chowki.
In response to the serious allegations, local authorities in Aligarh have commenced an audit of land records, signatures, and transaction histories pertinent to the 1997 will. The investigation is ongoing, aiming to uncover the truth behind the conflicting claims in this high-profile family feud.
