Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu recently shared insights into her multi-faceted April celebrations, embracing both Baisakhi and Poila Boishakh, the Bengali New Year. For the star, these festive occasions are deeply intertwined with family traditions, culinary delights, and significant personal milestones.
Food: The Heart of Bengali New Year
Basu, a self-proclaimed "simple Bengali girl," emphasized that for her, Poila Boishakh revolves primarily around food. "We, Bengalis, only celebrate with food. That's our love language," she stated. She expressed a particular fondness for "mishti" (Bengali sweets), a love so profound that it inspired her to nickname her daughter, Devi, "Mishti."
These celebrations are a time for family gatherings, where conversations flow freely alongside abundant meals. "If you are from a Bengali household, you would know how we love to get together, chat and eat. Everyone talks at the same time, and everyone understands everything," she remarked, highlighting the joyous chaos of such occasions.
A Decade of Love and Milestones
Beyond the festive calendar, April holds special significance for Basu and her husband, actor Karan Singh Grover. This period marks a decade since Grover proposed to her, an event that playfully fast-tracked their wedding plans. Basu recounted how a friend's advice to Grover — "She’s a catch, she’s going to run away" — prompted him to secure an early wedding date, which ultimately fell on April 30, shortly after the Bengali New Year.
The couple also celebrates their wedding anniversary on April 30, making the entire month a "special and joyous time" for their family.
Simple Celebrations, Deep Reflections
Despite the festive atmosphere, Basu prefers a relaxed approach to her personal celebrations. While her husband and daughter enjoy dressing up, she opts for comfortable clothing, reserving elaborate attire for professional commitments.
Basu also shared her outlook on New Year resolutions, explaining that as a thoughtful Capricorn, she makes deliberate decisions and finds no need for a "New Year, New Me" mantra. "Everything in my life is organised, so there’s nothing that I can really think of leaving behind now," she concluded.
