Akshay Kumar's 'Bhooth Bangla' Debuts with ₹15 Cr, Outperforms Past Films & Dents 'Dhurandhar 2'

· · 2 min read

Akshay Kumar's latest horror-comedy, 'Bhooth Bangla,' earned ₹15 crore on its opening day, including paid previews. This strong debut surpasses several of his previous post-pandemic releases and has notably affected the ongoing run of 'Dhurandhar 2'.

Bollywood star Akshay Kumar's new horror-comedy, Bhooth Bangla, has made a notable entry at the box office, collecting ₹15 crore on its opening day, according to industry reports from April 18, 2026. This figure includes ₹3.50 crore from paid previews and an additional ₹12.25 crore on its official release day, bringing its total domestic collection to ₹15.75 crore and a domestic gross of ₹18.90 crore.

The film's initial performance marks a significant achievement for Kumar, as it has surpassed the opening day domestic collections of his recent post-pandemic releases. These include Bade Miyan Chote Miyan (₹15.50 crore), Ram Setu (₹15.20 crore), and Bachchan Paandey (₹13.25 crore). Globally, Bhooth Bangla has garnered ₹5 crore from overseas markets, pushing its worldwide total to ₹23.90 crore.

Impact on 'Dhurandhar 2' and Comparisons

The release of Bhooth Bangla has also had a noticeable effect on the box office trajectory of the Ranveer Singh-starrer spy action thriller, Dhurandhar 2. For the first time since its theatrical release, Dhurandhar 2's daily earnings dropped below ₹5 crore on its fifth Friday. Prior to this, Dhurandhar 2 had accumulated substantial collections: ₹674.17 crore in its first week, ₹263.65 crore in its second, ₹110.60 crore in its third, and ₹54.70 crore in its fourth week. With an additional ₹2.70 crore on its fifth Friday, its total Indian box office collection stands at ₹1,105.82 crore.

While Bhooth Bangla has shown a strong start, it lags behind other successful horror-comedies in terms of initial collections. The film's worldwide opening is less than Kartik Aaryan's Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2, which earned ₹21 crore worldwide. Furthermore, it trails behind Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 (₹53 crore), Thamma (₹31 crore), and Stree 2, which remains the highest-grossing horror-comedy with ₹80 crore.

Creative Team Behind 'Bhooth Bangla'

Directed by veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan, Bhooth Bangla marks a reunion between the director and Akshay Kumar after a 14-year hiatus. The film boasts a stellar ensemble cast alongside Kumar, including Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav, Tabu, Mithila Palkar, and Wamiqa Gabbi, promising a blend of laughs and scares for audiences.
