India Yamaha Motor (IYM) has officially launched the all-new YZF-R2 in India, marking its entry into the competitive 200cc motorcycle segment and expanding its popular R-series portfolio. The highly anticipated sportbike will be available in three distinct variants, with prices starting at ₹2,30,500 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
Motorcycle enthusiasts can expect the YZF-R2 to hit Yamaha's Blue Square dealerships across India from mid-September 2026.
Pricing and Variants
The YZF-R2 lineup offers options catering to different preferences and budgets:
- Base YZF-R2: Priced at ₹2,30,500, available in Metallic Black and Dark Bluish Gray.
- YZF-R2 Quick Shifter: Retailing at ₹2,39,500, offered in Matte White Pearl and Racing Blue. This variant features a third-generation bi-directional quick shifter for seamless gear changes.
- YZF-R2 M: The top-spec model, priced at ₹2,53,000, comes exclusively in Metallic Gray. It includes additional premium features and adjustments.
Engine and Performance
Powering the YZF-R2 is a newly developed 204cc, liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, single-cylinder, four-valve, fuel-injected engine. This potent unit is engineered to produce 26.5 PS of power and 19.1 Nm of peak torque, promising a spirited riding experience.
A notable technological highlight is the use of a finger-follower rocker-arm valvetrain with Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating. This advanced technology, derived from Yamaha's flagship R1 model, is designed to significantly reduce friction and reciprocating mass within the engine, enhancing efficiency and responsiveness.
Chassis, Suspension, and Braking
The YZF-R2 is built around a high-tensile steel tube diamond frame, contributing to its agile handling and stability. The motorcycle boasts a kerb weight of 149 kg. Yamaha states that the chassis dimensions are inspired by the YZF-R6, incorporating a four-point engine mounting system with an additional mounting point for structural rigidity.
Suspension duties are managed by 37mm upside-down front forks and a rear monoshock, ensuring a balanced and comfortable ride. The bike rides on 17-inch wheels and is equipped with a comprehensive suite of safety and control features, including traction control, an Assist & Slipper Clutch, and dual-channel ABS.
Advanced Features and Technology
Riders can customize their experience through Yamaha Ride Control (YRC), which offers three distinct riding modes: Street, Sport, and Rain. The YZF-R2 also features a modern 5-inch full-color TFT display, providing essential ride information and navigation capabilities.

The YZF-R2 draws its aggressive and aerodynamic styling cues from Yamaha's latest R-series motorcycles. It features a compact bi-functional LED headlight paired with distinctive LED position lights. The sculpted front fairing and aerodynamic bodywork are designed not only for aesthetics but also to enhance performance.
Further design elements include a block-style LED taillight and a swingarm whose design is inspired by Yamaha's sportier R-series models, reinforcing its supersport pedigree.
