Waaree Energies Ltd. announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Waaree Clean Energy Solutions (WCES), is making a strategic entry into India's specialty gases market. This move positions WCES as a critical supplier for the country's burgeoning semiconductor and solar cell manufacturing sectors.
Targeting Domestic Semiconductor and Solar Production
WCES plans to establish itself as a comprehensive provider of ultra-high-purity (UHP) gases and chemicals. These essential materials are crucial for the semiconductor and solar cell industries, which currently depend heavily on imports for their high-purity process gas requirements.
The company is constructing a dedicated specialty gases plant at GIDC Saykha in Dahej, Gujarat. This facility will play a vital role in localizing the supply chain for advanced electronics manufacturing.
Phased Development and Comprehensive Offerings
The new business initiative will be rolled out in phases. Initial plans include establishing specialty gases warehousing, a dedicated UHP ammonia purification unit, and a phosphine/hydrogen (PH₃/H₂) mixing plant crucial for doping and deposition processes. Facilities for UHP oxygen will also be developed, complementing the already commercially available UHP hydrogen.
Anuj Sharma, CEO of WCES, emphasized the importance of this development. “Semiconductor and solar cell manufacturing cannot scale in India without a reliable, high-purity gas and chemical supply chain alongside it,” Sharma stated. He added that WCES would serve India's fabs, OSAT (Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test) and ATMP (Advanced Packaging and Test Manufacturing) units, advanced electronics manufacturers, and solar cell production lines.
Beyond gas production, WCES will offer customized gas and chemical supply systems, including nitrogen plants, and a Total Gas & Chemical Management System covering storage, delivery, safety monitoring, and inventory management. Its UHP portfolio will encompass a wide range of gases, including Silane, Ammonia, Nitrous Oxide, Phosphine mixtures, Boron Trichloride, Trimethyl Aluminium, Diborane, and Germane/H₂ mixes, with a planned pan-India supply network.
Supporting India's Manufacturing Ambitions
This strategic entry aligns with India's ambitious Semicon India 2.0 program, which aims to expand domestic semiconductor and electronics manufacturing. Waaree Energies highlighted that high-purity process gases and chemicals have historically been largely imported, creating a critical bottleneck for the sector's growth. The new domestic venture by WCES is designed to alleviate this dependency.
The specialty gases business will leverage WCES's existing clean-energy manufacturing infrastructure, which includes an electrolyser stack facility. With government incentives boosting semiconductor and solar cell capacity, WCES is positioned to grow in tandem with these critical industries.
Established in 1990, Waaree Energies operates significant solar PV module manufacturing capacity of approximately 29 GW and solar cell capacity of up to 15.4 GW. The company's diverse portfolio spans solar panels, inverters, EPC services, green hydrogen solutions, battery energy storage, and more, with a presence across India and in over 25 countries.
