Venezuela Unveils PRO-V-90 Digital Visa for Foreign Professionals

· · 2 min read

Venezuela has launched the PRO-V-90, a new electronic multiple-entry visa for foreign professionals providing temporary specialized services. It allows stays up to 90 days and targets those working independently or sent by overseas firms, with an entirely online application process.

Venezuela has introduced a new electronic PRO-V-90 multiple-entry visa, streamlining entry for foreign professionals undertaking short-term specialized assignments in the country. This new digital visa permits stays of up to 90 days and is designed for individuals working independently or those dispatched by international companies to serve clients within Venezuela, as highlighted by immigration firm Fragomen.

Understanding the PRO-V-90 Visa

The PRO-V-90 is exclusively for foreign nationals engaged in specific professional activities. These can include providing technical assistance, operational support, delivering speaking engagements, conducting journalistic activities, or overseeing investments. A critical condition for this visa is the absence of an employment relationship with any Venezuelan company. The inviting Venezuelan entity cannot offer employment-related compensation or remuneration to the visa holder.

This initiative is particularly relevant for Indian professionals, consultants, and employees of Indian companies who need to complete short-term assignments in Venezuela without being directly employed by a Venezuelan entity. For instance, an Indian professional offering technical assistance to a Venezuelan client on behalf of an Indian firm could potentially qualify for this visa, provided all activity and employment arrangement criteria are met.

Key Details and Application Process

  • Validity: The PRO-V-90 visa is valid for 90 days. Upon expiration, the foreign national must exit Venezuela and, if necessary, re-enter with a newly issued visa.
  • Purpose: It is intended for temporary specialized services, not as a substitute for standard Venezuelan work or employment visas. Fragomen advises careful assessment for individuals with existing employment relationships in their home country.
  • Application: A significant feature is the entirely online application process through Venezuela's Cancillería Digital platform.
  • Processing Time: Estimated processing times range from approximately two to ten business days.
  • No Consulate Visit: Approved applicants receive their permission via email, which can be printed, eliminating the need to visit a Venezuelan consulate for a physical visa stamp.

This digital visa aims to simplify and expedite the process for international professionals contributing specialized skills to Venezuela's economy on a temporary basis.
