India's latest Vande Bharat sleeper train is redefining overnight rail travel, drawing significant praise from passengers and travel enthusiasts alike. A recent review by travel vlogger Saina Saiwan highlighted the train's exceptional comfort and cleanliness, comparing the journey to a hotel experience rather than a conventional train ride.
A Modern Approach to Rail Travel
Saiwan's Instagram review quickly gained traction, showcasing the Vande Bharat sleeper's contemporary design and amenities. She expressed surprise, stating the interiors were so polished and modern that they lacked the traditional 'train wali vibe.' Instead, the journey offered an experience akin to an airline or a premium hotel, a significant departure from the blue berths, metal fittings, and crowded corridors often associated with Indian trains.
Unmatched Cleanliness and Service
A standout feature for Saiwan was the impeccable hygiene maintained throughout the train. She specifically lauded the cleanliness of the washrooms, noting they were a considerable upgrade from typical train toilets. This focus on sanitation aligns with the Northeast Frontier Railway's emphasis on contemporary toilets, advanced disinfectant technology, and accessibility provisions for the sleeper service.
The onboard food service also contributed to the positive impression. Saiwan observed staff members wearing gloves and head caps while serving meals, reinforcing the perception of high standards in hygiene and service. The railway also offers regional food options, with Assamese dishes for journeys from Guwahati and Bengali cuisine from Kolkata.
Vande Bharat Sleeper: Features and Route
The inaugural Vande Bharat Sleeper service commenced in January 2026, operating between Howrah and Guwahati. This modern overnight train comprises 16 coaches, including one AC First Class, four AC 2-Tier, and eleven AC 3-Tier coaches, accommodating approximately 823 passengers. Key features include automatic doors, advanced emergency communication systems, and the 'Kavach' safety technology, designed to prevent collisions.
The journey duration is approximately 14 hours, a notable reduction compared to the older services which typically took around 17 hours on the same route. This efficiency, combined with enhanced comfort, has quickly made the Vande Bharat sleeper a passenger favorite, recording high occupancy rates on routes like Howrah-Kamakhya.
A Call for Passenger Responsibility
Towards the end of her review, Saiwan also appealed to fellow passengers to help maintain the upgraded facilities provided by Indian Railways. Her message underscored the importance of collective responsibility in preserving the new standards of cleanliness and comfort that the Vande Bharat sleeper trains offer.
