Uttar Pradesh Leads Nation in Sugar, Sugarcane, Ethanol Production; CM Cites ₹3.23 Lakh Crore Farmer Payouts

· · 2 min read

Uttar Pradesh has emerged as India's top producer of sugar, sugarcane, and ethanol, according to Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. The state government has paid ₹3.23 lakh crore to sugarcane farmers and increased prices to ₹400 per quintal.

Uttar Pradesh has solidified its position as the leading state in India for sugar, sugarcane, and ethanol production, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath announced recently. Speaking at a public meeting in Amroha, where he inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 43 development projects totaling over ₹207 crore, CM Adityanath attributed this significant growth to the 'double-engine' government's dedicated focus on strengthening the sugar sector and ensuring timely payments to farmers.

Boost to Farmer Incomes and Industry Revival

The Chief Minister highlighted the substantial financial support provided to farmers, stating that the state has disbursed an impressive ₹3.23 lakh crore to sugarcane cultivators. Furthermore, the price of sugarcane has been increased to ₹400 per quintal, directly benefiting thousands of agricultural families across Uttar Pradesh. This commitment to farmer welfare is a cornerstone of the state's agricultural strategy.

Adityanath also drew a stark comparison with previous administrations, noting that 29 sugar mills had been shut down and 21 sold off at undervalued prices in the past. In contrast, the current government has ensured the successful operation of 122 sugar mills throughout the state, revitalizing an industry that was once in decline. He asserted that without these interventions, Uttar Pradesh's sugar industry might have ceased to exist.

Strengthening the Sugarcane Economy

Government policies have played a crucial role in strengthening the overall sugarcane economy. These measures have not only improved farmers' incomes but have also propelled Uttar Pradesh to national leadership in the production of sugar, sugarcane, and ethanol. The Chief Minister emphasized that improved infrastructure, enhanced connectivity, and robust industrial development have collectively created new opportunities for farmers and rural communities alike.

The state's rise as a powerhouse in the sugar and ethanol sectors underscores a strategic approach to agricultural development, aiming for both economic prosperity for farmers and industrial growth for the region.
