USFDA Gives Aurobindo Pharma's Aurolife Raleigh Plant VAI Status, Clearing Drug Pipeline

· · 2 min read

Aurobindo Pharma's US subsidiary, Aurolife Pharma LLC, received a "Voluntary Action Indicated" (VAI) classification from the USFDA for its Raleigh, NC plant. This clears the way for pending drug applications, including inhalers, to progress.

Aurobindo Pharma Ltd. announced that its wholly owned step-down subsidiary, Aurolife Pharma LLC, has received an Establishment Inspection Report (EIR) from the United States Food and Drug Administration (USFDA) for its Raleigh Plant in North Carolina, USA. The facility has been classified as "Voluntary Action Indicated" (VAI), signifying the conclusion of the inspection.

USFDA Inspection and VAI Status

The USFDA conducted an inspection of Aurolife Pharma LLC's Raleigh facility, which specializes in manufacturing inhalers, dermatology products, and transdermal products, from March 24, 2025, to April 10, 2025. Following the inspection, Form 483 was issued with 11 observations.

The subsequent VAI classification is a positive development for Aurobindo Pharma. It indicates that while some objectionable conditions were found, the USFDA does not consider regulatory action necessary at this time. Crucially, this status enables pending applications for various inhalers and other dosage forms filed from this facility to advance through the USFDA's review process, potentially boosting the company's product pipeline.

Context of Recent Regulatory Actions

This positive news for Aurolife Pharma comes shortly after Aurobindo Pharma informed exchanges on August 14 about a different regulatory outcome for its Unit-I, a formulation manufacturing facility of Eugia Pharma Specialities Ltd. That unit had received an "Official Action Indicated" (OAI) status from the USFDA, followed by a Warning Letter.

Aurobindo Pharma clarified that despite the OAI and Warning Letter for the Eugia Pharma unit, which contributes approximately 2 percent to the company’s overall group revenue, there is no immediate impact on existing supplies to the US markets. The company reiterated its commitment to collaborate closely with the USFDA and continuously enhance its compliance standards.

Analyst Outlook and Stock Performance

Following the announcement regarding the Aurolife plant's VAI status, Aurobindo Pharma's shares are expected to be in focus among investors. Bloomberg consensus indicates a target price of Rs 1,701 for the stock, suggesting a potential upside of 4.9 percent from its previous closing price. Analyst recommendations include 18 'Buy' calls, five 'Hold' recommendations, and five 'Sell' ratings, reflecting a mixed but generally positive sentiment towards the company's prospects.
