The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) is anticipated to release e-admit cards for the Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026 this week. Candidates can download their hall tickets from official portals for the May 24 exam.

Lakhs of aspirants across the nation are keenly awaiting the release of admit cards for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services Preliminary Examination 2026. With the exam scheduled for May 24, the UPSC is expected to activate the e-admit card download links on its official websites this week.

How to Download Your UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 Admit Card

Once the download links become active, candidates can access their admit cards by visiting the official UPSC portals: upsc.gov.in, upsconline.gov.in, or upsconline.nic.in. To download, applicants will need to log in using their Registration ID or Roll Number, along with their date of birth and a captcha code.

After successful login, the admit card will appear as a PDF file. Candidates are strongly advised to download and print a clear copy on A4-sized paper. It is crucial to carefully verify all details on the admit card, including your name, photograph, roll number, assigned exam centre, and reporting time. Any discrepancies should be reported to UPSC authorities immediately.

UPSC CSE Prelims 2026 Exam Timings and Structure

The preliminary examination will be conducted offline in OMR-based mode across various centres nationwide on May 24, 2026. The exam will take place in two distinct shifts:

  • GS Paper 1: 9:30 am to 11:30 am
  • CSAT Paper 2: 2:30 pm to 4:30 pm

Both papers are mandatory, each carrying a maximum of 200 marks and lasting two hours. Detailed reporting times and venue-specific instructions will be provided on individual admit cards. Candidates must ensure they arrive at their designated centres well in advance of the stipulated reporting time.

What to Carry on Exam Day

Candidates must bring two essential items to the examination hall:

  1. A printed copy of their e-admit card.
  2. A valid original photo identity proof (e.g., Aadhaar card, Passport, Driving License).

Entry to the examination venue may be denied if either of these documents is not presented.

UPSC Civil Services Exam Pattern Remains Unchanged

The UPSC confirmed in its February 4, 2026 notification that the Civil Services Examination pattern remains consistent with the structure implemented since 2013. The examination comprises three stages:

  • Prelims: Consists of GS Paper 1 (100 questions, 200 marks) and CSAT Paper 2 (80 questions, 200 marks).
  • Mains: Comprises nine descriptive papers, with seven merit-based papers totaling 1,750 marks.
  • Personality Test: Carries 275 marks.

The final merit list is compiled from a total of 2,025 marks. Aspirants are advised to regularly check the official UPSC websites for the latest updates and to download their admit cards promptly once available.
