Reliance Retail's beauty platform, Tira, has announced the exclusive launch of South Korean dermo-cosmetic brand Dr. Melaxin in India. This move marks Dr. Melaxin's entry into the rapidly expanding Indian skincare market, where clinically positioned, ingredient-led products are seeing significant demand.
Dr. Melaxin, known for its formulations inspired by vaccine science and dermatologist-tested for sensitive skin, offers products targeting concerns such as pigmentation, enlarged pores, skin aging, and loss of firmness. The brand's initial offering in India includes its popular Peel Shot range.
Growth in Dermo-Cosmetics Market
The introduction of Dr. Melaxin in India by Tira comes amidst a surge in the dermo-cosmetics segment. These products occupy a unique space between prescription dermatology and conventional skincare, emphasizing clinical evaluation, ingredient efficacy, and dermatologist recommendations.
According to Euromonitor International, India's skincare market expanded by 13 percent in value in 2025, reaching ₹32,210 crore. This growth is largely fueled by consumers seeking advanced solutions and being more informed about ingredients like retinol, niacinamide, ceramides, and peptides.
Consumer Demand for Science-Backed Skincare
Dr. Deepali Bhardwaj, a Senior Consultant Dermatologist at Max Hospital Superspeciality Saket and Founder of Elska Clinics, noted, “Medical skincare has moved into the mainstream over the past few years. Consumers today are far more informed and often come to clinics having researched ingredients such as retinol, niacinamide, ceramides and peptides. They are looking for products supported by clinical evidence and dermatologist recommendations rather than relying solely on advertising or cosmetic claims.” She added that dermo-cosmetics are increasingly becoming a part of routine skin management for various conditions.
Yu Kyoung Hwa, Chief Executive Officer of Dr. Melaxin, highlighted India as a crucial market. “Indian consumers are curious, informed and genuinely interested in effective skincare solutions. Their key concerns, from pigmentation to texture and firmness, are exactly what we have set out to address. Through our launch with Tira, we are excited to bring our most innovative products, including the Peel Shot line, to the people it was created for,” said Hwa.
Expanding Retail and Pharmaceutical Interest
The partnership enhances Tira's portfolio of international skincare brands, reflecting a broader trend among retailers to expand premium skincare offerings. This collaboration aims to provide Indian consumers with greater access to science-backed skincare products through Tira’s online platform and selected physical stores.
Indian pharmaceutical companies are also increasingly investing in the dermo-cosmetics category. Glenmark, for instance, mentioned in its FY25 Integrated Annual Report that its consumer care business is rapidly emerging in India's dermatology-led self-care space, building a high-science dermatology portfolio from prescription to personal care.
