Tilaknagar's Strategic Entry into Tequila Sector
Tilaknagar Industries Ltd, a prominent liquor manufacturer, has officially entered the burgeoning tequila market through a strategic investment. The company announced on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, a Rs 22 crore investment in Black Tiger Distilleries, the producer of Bodega Suprema No. 5 tequila.
This significant move secures Tilaknagar a 30 percent shareholding in Black Tiger Distilleries on a fully diluted basis. The investment will be executed in two tranches: an initial Rs 6 crore, followed by an additional Rs 16 crore within 12 months from the first tranche. This marks Tilaknagar's first foray into the tequila segment and its third strategic investment in an emerging beverage business.
Introducing Bodega Suprema No. 5 Tequila
Black Tiger Distilleries' flagship product, Bodega Suprema No. 5, has recently launched in India. This premium tequila is crafted from 100 percent Blue Weber Agave, meticulously produced and bottled in Jalisco, Mexico, the heartland of tequila production. The brand is positioned in the premium segment, with bottles retailing in India between Rs 4,200 and Rs 5,500.
Tilaknagar's Support and Market Growth Outlook
Beyond capital injection, Tilaknagar Industries will provide comprehensive strategic support to Black Tiger Distilleries. This assistance spans critical functions including distribution, sales, marketing, supply chain management, finance, and regulatory compliance, leveraging Tilaknagar's established expertise in the liquor industry.
The investment aligns with the robust growth observed in the Indian tequila market. According to IWSR data cited by Tilaknagar, India has emerged as the fastest-growing major tequila market globally, experiencing approximately 60 percent compounded annual volume growth between 2020 and 2025. Last year alone saw growth around 34 percent, with forecasts predicting a 13 percent compounded annual growth through 2030, underscoring the category's significant potential.
