Tata Power Company Ltd. announced the successful commissioning of the second phase of its significant Jalpura-Khurja Transmission Project in Uttar Pradesh. This strategic infrastructure development, completed through its wholly-owned subsidiary TP Jalpura Khurja Power Transmission Limited, is designed to substantially enhance power transmission capabilities across the National Capital Region (NCR) and Western Uttar Pradesh.
Strengthening Regional Power Infrastructure
The newly operational project features a 400kV double-circuit transmission line spanning 162 circuit kilometres (CKM). It also includes a state-of-the-art 400/220kV Gas Insulated Substation (GIS) at Jalpura, boasting a robust 1,000 MVA transformation capacity. This dual-circuit corridor establishes a critical high-voltage link between Khurja and Jalpura, with Khurja serving as a vital power hub for electricity distribution towards Noida and the broader NCR region.
The commissioning of this corridor facilitates the seamless transfer of power from the 400kV high-voltage grid to the 220kV network, directly addressing the region's increasing electricity demands. Tata Power emphasized that this infrastructure will significantly improve the reliability, resilience, and overall efficiency of the local transmission network.
Market Reaction and Company Growth
Following the announcement, Tata Power's shares experienced a positive uplift, rising approximately 2% in early trading. The stock opened at Rs 366.40, up from its previous close of Rs 363.80 on the BSE, and reached a high of Rs 370.80 apiece. This gain was in line with broader positive trends observed across the energy sector.
With this latest addition, Tata Power's extensive transmission portfolio now encompasses 7,900 circuit kilometres of lines that are either operational or currently under execution across India. The company, a prominent part of the Tata Group, maintains a diversified presence across the entire power value chain, including generation, transmission, and distribution. Its operational and under-construction capacity exceeds 26 GW, with a significant 17.7 GW derived from clean and green energy sources.
Tata Power continues to invest in critical infrastructure that supports India's growing energy needs and transition to sustainable power.
Beyond transmission, Tata Power is actively involved in solar manufacturing, pumped hydro storage, and electric vehicle charging solutions, serving over 13 million customers through its distribution businesses and operating more than 7,000 public EV charging points across 717 cities and towns.
