Sunshine Pictures IPO Lists at 10% Premium, Disappoints Investors

Shares of Sunshine Pictures debuted on NSE at Rs 395.90, a 9.97% premium over its Rs 360 issue price. Despite the positive start, the listing fell short of market expectations, which anticipated 17-22% gains based on grey market premium.

Sunshine Pictures Makes Market Debut

Shares of Sunshine Pictures, a content production company, made their stock market debut on Tuesday, August 25. The company's stock listed on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) at Rs 395.90, representing a 9.97% premium over its issue price of Rs 360 per share. Similarly, on BSE Ltd., the stock settled at Rs 394, a 9.44% premium.

Investor Disappointment Over Listing Gains

Despite the positive listing, the performance of Sunshine Pictures' stock has largely disappointed investors. Prior to its debut, the company's grey market premium (GMP) suggested an expected listing gain of 17-22%, significantly higher than the actual 10% premium. This translates to a profit of approximately Rs 1,470 per allotted lot for investors, which was below the anticipated returns.

IPO Details and Subscription Success

The initial public offering (IPO) for Sunshine Pictures ran from August 18 to August 20, with shares offered in a price band of Rs 342-360 apiece. Investors applied for a minimum of 41 shares per lot. The company successfully raised a total of Rs 282 crore through the IPO, which included a fresh share sale of Rs 173 crore and an offer-for-sale (OFS) component of up to Rs 109 crore.

The IPO witnessed robust subscription across all categories, with an overall subscription of 105.81 times. Qualified institutional bidders (QIBs) subscribed a remarkable 123.52 times, while non-institutional investors (NIIs) showed strong interest with a subscription of 197.04 times. Retail investors also participated actively, booking their portion 56.60 times.
