Stellantis Boosts India Investment with ₹4,000 Cr & 7 New Jeep, Citroën Models

· · 3 min read

Stellantis, the parent company of Jeep and Citroën, is investing ₹4,000 crore in India to launch seven new models and five refreshed vehicles over the next three years. This initiative aims to triple its market share by focusing on localization and diverse powertrain options.

Stellantis Commits ₹4,000 Crore to India Expansion

Stellantis, the global automotive group behind brands like Jeep and Citroën, has announced a significant investment of ₹4,000 crore in India. This fresh capital infusion will boost its total commitment in the country from ₹11,000 crore to ₹15,000 crore over the next three years, as reported on October 15, 2026.

The Dutch-headquartered automaker plans to introduce a total of 12 new or refreshed models to the Indian market within this period. This portfolio will include seven entirely new products, with the first launch slated for the second quarter of 2027.

Product Strategy: New Models and Diverse Segments

The upcoming product offensive will see four new models under the Jeep brand and three new models for Citroën. Additionally, the company will refresh five existing models, comprising four Citroën vehicles and one Jeep.

Shailesh Hazela, Managing Director and CEO of Stellantis India, revealed that these launches will span various segments, targeting B, C, and D SUV categories, an A-segment car, a multi-utility vehicle (MPV), and a premium pickup. Stellantis is also committed to offering multiple powertrain options, including traditional internal combustion engines (ICE), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), and battery-electric vehicles (BEVs), catering to evolving customer preferences.

This strategic move follows Stellantis's recent agreement with Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles to utilize local platforms, a decision aimed at accelerating vehicle development in India, which ranks as the world's third-largest car market.

Market Share Ambitions and Localisation Push

Currently, Stellantis holds approximately 0.25% of the Indian passenger vehicle market. With this substantial investment and robust product pipeline, Hazela anticipates a threefold increase in market share, targeting 0.75% within the domestic market.

The company has acknowledged past challenges and emphasized the critical need to adapt global products to local customer tastes. Hazela noted, "Our basic learning is we can’t impose a product which is working in other countries to India, just like it."

Localisation is a cornerstone of this strategy. Stellantis aims to significantly increase the localisation level for Jeep vehicles from its current 72-75% to around 90%, mirroring the high levels already achieved by Citroën in India. This focus on local manufacturing is expected to improve affordability and reduce ownership costs, particularly for Jeep, enabling it to penetrate more segments beyond its existing offerings.

India's Growing Role in Global Operations

Beyond domestic sales, Stellantis is expanding India's strategic importance in its global supply chain. The company already exports engines, transmissions, and right-hand-drive vehicles to international markets. Looking ahead, Stellantis plans to develop left-hand-drive versions of its upcoming India-made products for export to over 50 countries worldwide.

The automaker also foresees the potential India-EU Free Trade Agreement (FTA) playing a crucial role in boosting its export growth from the region, stating that the FTA will open doors for more than just imports.
