Bengaluru-based fintech firm Smallcase has announced the launch of US Equities smallcases, providing Indian investors with new opportunities to diversify their portfolios. This offering allows individuals to invest in professionally managed portfolios comprising US-listed stocks and global Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs).
Expanding Global Investment Access
The new initiative builds upon Smallcase's earlier introduction of direct US equities, significantly broadening its international market investment options. These US Equity smallcases are designed around long-term investment strategies, specific sectors, and thematic trends, offering a structured approach to global investing.
A key feature of the new offering is fractional investing, which allows investors to purchase portions of high-value shares without needing to buy whole units. Smallcase states that access to these global investment strategies begins with a minimum investment of $50.
Regulatory Framework and Ease of Access
Smallcase's new service operates under the International Financial Services Centres Authority (IFSCA) Global Access Provider (GAP) framework. Investments will be facilitated through an IFSCA-registered Global Access Provider located at GIFT City, which handles US broking services. Fund transfers are supported by an IFSCA-registered payment service provider, adhering to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS).
Vasanth Kamath, Founder and CEO of Smallcase, highlighted the value proposition: "While access to global markets has become easier, deciding where to invest remains a much bigger challenge for Indian investors because the information gap is significantly larger than it is in domestic markets. US stocks and global ETF smallcases bridge that gap by bringing professionally managed global portfolios to investors in a transparent and accessible format. By combining expert portfolio management with features like automatic rebalancing and fractional investing, we're making it easier for Indian investors to build global portfolios with confidence."
Integrated Ecosystem for Investors
The US Equities smallcases ecosystem will feature both existing Smallcase managers expanding their expertise into global investing and new portfolio managers specializing in US equities. For investors who prefer to research and invest directly in individual US stocks and ETFs, the Smallcase group's Tickertape platform remains available.
Through a unified investment account, users can seamlessly manage individual securities on Tickertape and access professionally managed US equity portfolios via the Smallcase app. Smallcase, founded in Bengaluru in 2016, provides various investment products and platforms for the Indian capital markets industry.
