· · 2 min read

State Bank of India (SBI) customers will experience a 45-minute disruption to UPI services on September 4, 2026, due to scheduled maintenance from 12:30 AM to 1:15 AM IST. Customers are advised to plan transactions accordingly; UPI Lite remains available for small payments.

State Bank of India (SBI) has announced that its Unified Payments Interface (UPI) services will be temporarily unavailable for 45 minutes in the early hours of September 4, 2026. This disruption is due to scheduled maintenance activities aimed at enhancing service efficiency.

Maintenance Window Details

The service interruption is set to occur from 12:30 AM to 1:15 AM Indian Standard Time (IST) on September 4. SBI has proactively informed its customers about this planned downtime, urging them to make necessary arrangements for any urgent digital transactions during this specific period.

The bank confirmed the details via an official communication, stating, "Due to scheduled maintenance activity, SBI UPI services will be temporarily unavailable from 00:30 hrs to 01:15 hrs on 04.09.2026 (IST)." While the activity is scheduled for 45 minutes, there is a possibility it could conclude earlier.

Alternative Payment Options: UPI Lite

For customers who may need to make transactions during the maintenance window, SBI recommends utilizing UPI Lite. This feature is designed for small-value transactions and does not require a UPI PIN, offering a seamless experience for quick payments.

  • UPI Lite Transaction Limit: Up to ₹1,000 per transaction.
  • Maximum UPI Lite Balance: ₹5,000.

Customers can enable UPI Lite on their banking apps to ensure uninterrupted service for minor payments during the brief downtime.

Understanding SBI's UPI Transaction Limits

Beyond the temporary disruption, SBI maintains specific limits for regular UPI transactions. These limits are crucial for users to understand for their daily financial planning:

  • Person-to-Person (P2P) Transactions: A daily limit of 20 transactions.
  • Person-to-Merchant (P2M) Transactions: Subject to the applicable daily UPI transaction value limit.
  • Standard Daily UPI Limit: ₹1 lakh for combined P2P and P2M transactions.

For certain verified merchants, enhanced limits apply, such as up to ₹2 lakh for insurance and capital market transactions, and up to ₹5 lakh for IPO (ASBA), Retail Direct Scheme (RDS), tax payments, hospitals, and educational institutions. SBI also facilitates international remittances through the India-Singapore UPI corridor, allowing transactions up to the equivalent of 1,000 Singapore dollars (SGD).
