Mumbai, India – State Bank of India (SBI) has announced the appointment of Sunil Ramgopal Agrawal as its new Chief Financial Officer. Agrawal, a seasoned financial executive, previously served as the Chief Financial Officer for the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC).
According to an exchange filing by the lender, Agrawal commenced his tenure with SBI on July 15, 2026. He is designated as Key Managerial Personnel (KMP) under SEBI regulations and will officially take on the responsibilities of CFO starting August 1, 2026.
Extensive Financial Expertise
Agrawal brings with him an impressive 27 years of experience in the financial services and strategy sectors. During his time at LIC, he was instrumental in strengthening the finance function, spearheading strategic initiatives, and managing critical interactions with both the board and regulatory bodies. His contributions were pivotal in supporting LIC’s growth and transformation agenda.

Known for his deep expertise, Agrawal’s career spans various critical areas including financial planning, capital management, financial reporting, investor relations, governance, and regulatory engagement. His extensive experience also includes working effectively with boards, regulators, investors, and other key stakeholders, making him a valuable addition to SBI’s leadership team.
Academically, Agrawal is a qualified Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Science, providing a robust blend of technical and financial acumen for his new role at State Bank of India.
