Sagar Joshi embarked on an entrepreneurial journey in 2001, founding Law Prep Tutorial (LPT) from a borrowed basement in Jodhpur. With no established playbook for law coaching and a complete absence of venture capital, Joshi identified a significant gap: students aspiring for a legal career lacked structured preparation for competitive examinations. His unique approach, built on student fees and proven results, allowed LPT to grow organically, entirely bootstrapped from day one.
From Basement to National Presence
Over two decades, LPT has expanded significantly, now operating over 60 centers across 18 Indian states and having trained more than 1.5 lakh students. This remarkable growth is attributed to a steadfast commitment to academic quality and student success. Joshi's wife, Anupama Joshi, played a pivotal role from the outset, mentoring thousands in Legal Reasoning.
The institution's credibility soared with consistent top results. In CLAT 2026, LPT achieved over 1,600 NLU selections, marking the highest number by any institute in a single year. This included 42 students within the top 100 All India Ranks (AIRs), with AIR 3, AIR 8, and AIR 9 among them. LPT also secured AIR 1 in AILET 2026 and produced top ranks in the Rajasthan Judicial Services 2025, including Ranks 1, 2, 3, and 5.
Innovation and Advocacy
Joshi's vision extended beyond the classroom. In 2013, he filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) advocating for greater transparency in CLAT examinations, successfully securing carbon copies of OMR sheets and timely release of answer keys. More recently, LPT also secured domicile reservation for Rajasthan students at NLU Jodhpur after a prolonged legal battle.
The 2020 pandemic presented a challenge that LPT transformed into an opportunity. Instead of waiting, Joshi invested in a comprehensive Learning Management System (LMS), a mobile learning app, and AI-driven test analytics. This pivot to a hybrid model significantly expanded LPT's reach, making quality preparation accessible to students in smaller towns alongside those in metropolitan areas.
Strong Financial Performance and Future Outlook
Law Prep Tutorial continues to demonstrate robust financial health. For Q1 FY 2026-27, the company reported ₹51 crore in bookings, a 2.3X year-on-year increase from ₹22 crore in the corresponding quarter. Collections also surged from ₹12.5 crore to ₹25.10 crore during the same period. CLAT UG enrolments saw nearly 2.5X growth, while IPMAT doubled.
Beyond law, LPT has diversified its offerings. In 2023, Law Prep Judiciary was launched, yielding over 100 selections in RJS 2024 in its inaugural year. Further expansion in 2024 saw LPT venturing into CAT, IPMAT, and CUET under the LPT EdTech umbrella, quickly producing top ranks including Rajasthan's CAT topper.
Sagar Joshi's philosophy emphasizes trust and long-term outcomes over rapid, capital-driven growth. He believes that "word of mouth is the best marketing" and that student success is the ultimate measure of an institution's value. LPT plans to launch 20 new centers across 15 cities by Q3 FY 2026-27, focusing on expanding access to quality education for India's next generation of lawyers, judges, and leaders.
