Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd (RVNL), a key executing arm of Indian Railways, has announced a major contract win, securing a project worth approximately ₹404.88 crore from the East Coast Railway. The company emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) for the extensive railway infrastructure development.
Project Details and Scope
The newly awarded project encompasses a wide range of critical railway infrastructure works. This includes the execution of roadbed construction, minor bridges, major bridges, Road Under Bridges (RUBs), and Limited Height Subways (LHS). Additionally, the contract covers building works, the supply of ballast, permanent way linking, and other allied works.
A significant part of the project involves utility shifting for Signal & Telecommunication (S&T) and electrification works. This includes general service works and power supply arrangements, as well as the shifting and modification of HT (High Tension) and LT (Low Tension) lines. The project will be carried out between Khurda Road and Gangadharpur, specifically in connection with the execution of the 3rd Line between Nergundi-Barang (22 km) and Khurda Road-Vizianagaram (363 km) on the Bhadrak-Vizianagaram Section, totaling 385 km.
RVNL is tasked with completing this comprehensive project within a challenging timeframe of 30 months.
RVNL's Role and Market Context
As an executing arm of Indian Railways, RVNL operates on a turnkey basis, overseeing the entire project development cycle from conceptualization to commissioning. This includes design, estimation, contract tendering and awarding, and comprehensive project and contract management.
The announcement comes as RVNL's stock has experienced considerable fluctuations. The railway stock, often described as a multibagger, has seen a downturn, dropping approximately 41.26% this year and an even more significant 64% over the past two years. Shares currently trade near their 52-week low of ₹203.95, which was recorded on September 2, 2026. On Thursday, the stock closed at ₹209.50, with the firm's market capitalization standing at ₹42,742 crore.
