Royal Enfield has officially unveiled and launched the new Himalayan 440 in India, marking a decade since the original Himalayan adventure motorcycle first arrived. Positioned as a more accessible option than the Himalayan 450, the new model retains the rugged design and adventure-focused spirit that defines the series.
Launch Details and Pricing
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 was introduced at the inaugural Himalayan Basecamp in Ladakh. Bookings commenced on September 4, 2026, across all authorized Royal Enfield dealerships and via the company's official website. The adventure motorcycle carries a starting price of Rs 2.29 lakh (ex-showroom). Early buyers will receive an exclusive 10-year anniversary badge on the fuel tank of initial units.
Engine and Performance Upgrades
A significant upgrade for the Himalayan 440 is its new 443cc, single-cylinder, long-stroke engine. This powerhouse generates 25.4bhp at 6,250rpm and a peak torque of 34Nm at 4,000rpm. Royal Enfield emphasizes that the new engine delivers improved NVH (noise, vibration, and harshness) levels compared to its predecessor. The engine is coupled with a new six-speed gearbox, featuring revised transmission ratios designed to facilitate easier low-speed riding, while the additional sixth gear enhances comfort during highway cruising and long-distance tours.
Design, Features, and Ergonomics
The Himalayan 440 maintains its functional adventure-bike aesthetic. It boasts an 800mm seat height, aimed at accommodating a broader range of riders. A 15-litre fuel tank supports extended touring, complemented by enhanced luggage carrying capabilities. Modern features include a new LED headlamp, a digital-analogue instrument cluster, Tripper navigation, and a convenient USB Type-C charging port. Royal Enfield will also offer a diverse range of accessories to further boost its touring and off-road prowess, such as hard panniers, touring seats, and adventure handguards.
Chassis, Suspension, and Braking System
Underpinning the Himalayan 440 is a robust half-duplex split-cradle frame. Suspension duties are managed by 41mm telescopic front forks, offering 200mm of travel, and a linkage-type rear monoshock with 180mm of travel. The motorcycle rides on a 21-inch spoke wheel at the front and a 17-inch spoke wheel at the rear, providing a substantial 220mm of ground clearance. Its low center of gravity is engineered to instill greater rider confidence across varied terrains like rocky trails, slush, and snow.
Braking performance has been enhanced with a 300mm front disc paired with a two-piston floating caliper featuring larger pistons, alongside a 240mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS is standard, and a switchable system provides greater control for off-road riding scenarios.
Colors and Warranty
The Royal Enfield Himalayan 440 is available in three distinct color options: Sela Black, Mustang Brown, and Nelong White. Royal Enfield is also offering an attractive seven-year extended warranty package, which includes Roadside Assistance across its entire motorcycle range. This extended coverage adds an additional four years or 40,000km, whichever comes first, to the standard three-year or 30,000km warranty.
