Rhetan TMT Seeks ₹300 Crore Borrowing Boost for Major Expansion

· · 2 min read

Rhetan TMT plans to increase its borrowing limit to ₹300 crore, aiming to fund significant expansion initiatives. This includes establishing a new 1 MW captive solar plant and diversifying into premium steel grades, enhancing financial flexibility and reducing energy costs.

Rhetan TMT, a prominent steel manufacturer, is preparing for a significant business expansion, seeking shareholder approval to raise its borrowing limit from ₹200 crore to ₹300 crore. This increased financial flexibility will support the company's planned growth and future operational requirements.

The move comes as Rhetan TMT implements two key strategic developments. The company has successfully commissioned a 1 MW captive solar power project at its manufacturing facility in Kadi, Gujarat. This initiative is expected to help mitigate energy costs, which currently represent approximately 20% of the company's overall operational expenses.

Strategic Investments for Growth and Efficiency

Shalin Shah, Managing Director of Rhetan TMT, commented on the solar project, stating it provides the company with "greater control over a key operating input" while advancing its sustainability objectives. The integration of renewable energy is a crucial step towards operational efficiency.

In addition to the solar plant, Rhetan TMT is also focusing on expanding its product portfolio by introducing premium steel grades. This diversification aims to broaden the company's market reach and cater to higher-value segments.

Financial Outlook and Investor Considerations

The proposed increase in borrowing capacity does not imply an immediate drawdown of the full additional ₹100 crore. Instead, it provides Rhetan TMT with the option to raise funds as needed for various expansion projects and other business necessities.

Over the past five years, Rhetan TMT has demonstrated robust financial performance, reporting a compound annual growth rate of 140% in profits. For investors, the critical factor will be how effectively the company utilizes this expanded borrowing capacity and whether its investments in manufacturing, energy savings, and higher-grade steel translate into sustained revenue growth and improved profitability.
