Candidates vying for the crucial role of full-time CEO at the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust underwent an unconventional interview process, facing detailed questions about their personal beliefs, dietary habits, and lifestyle choices. The interviews, held behind closed doors within the Ram Mandir complex in Ayodhya, went beyond typical administrative and management queries.
Among the questions posed to the 18 shortlisted candidates were direct inquiries such as, “Are you a staunch Hindu?”, “Do you eat non-vegetarian food?”, “Do you keep a shikha (tuft of hair)?”, and “Do you wear a janeu (sacred thread)?”. Candidates were also asked about their consumption of alcohol, their families, their faith in Lord Rama, and their understanding of the temple’s religious and social significance.
Strict Requirements for the New CEO
The Trust is reportedly seeking a CEO who is a practicing Hindu, adheres strictly to Hindu traditions, is a vegetarian, and a teetotaler. The age limit for applicants was set between 50 and 70 years. These stringent requirements underscore the spiritual and cultural significance attached to the administrative leadership of the Ram Temple.
Selection Process and Committee
The extensive selection process began with over 5,300 applications from across India. From this large pool, 18 candidates were shortlisted, including three former IAS officers, a retired IPS officer, and several former military and education officials. All shortlisted candidates traveled to Ayodhya for the interviews, which were conducted by a high-profile selection committee.
The committee included former Justice Pramod Kohli, Lt Gen (retd) Vishnukant Chaturvedi, and scientist Suresh Haware, who previously chaired the Shirdi Sai Baba Trust. Dr. Krishna Mohan, the Trust’s interim general secretary, was also present during the interviews. This is the first time the Trust is appointing a full-time CEO, a decision prompted by a recent incident involving the theft of cash, gold, and other offerings by temple staff.

The in-depth questioning reflects the Trust's emphasis on finding a leader whose personal life and values align closely with the spiritual mission and sanctity of the Ram Temple. The new CEO will be responsible for overseeing the temple’s administration, managing significant crowds during religious events, and ensuring the integrity of its operations and offerings.
