Rajasthan E-Rickshaw Driver's Son Secures Top JEE Advanced 2026 Rank, Aims for IIT Roorkee

· · 2 min read

Inderjeet, son of an e-rickshaw driver from Rajasthan's Pathanwala village, achieved an impressive rank in JEE Advanced 2026. Overcoming financial hurdles with affordable online classes and a village library, he aims for IIT Roorkee.

In a remarkable testament to perseverance and the power of accessible education, Inderjeet, the son of an e-rickshaw driver from Pathanwala village in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district, has secured a commendable rank in the JEE Advanced 2026 examination. His achievement, with an OBC-NCL rank of 1,040 and a Common Rank List (CRL) rank of 4,861, highlights how determination can surmount significant financial barriers.

Overcoming Financial Hurdles

Inderjeet's family operates on an annual income below ₹1 lakh, making traditional, expensive coaching centers in cities like Kota or Sikar an improbable option. Living in Pathanwala, a village with limited basic facilities, presented additional challenges. Despite these constraints, Inderjeet remained steadfast in his ambition to secure a seat at one of India’s prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

The Role of Online Learning and Community Support

His journey to success was significantly aided by affordable online coaching programs. Recognizing the limitations of his home environment—frequent electricity cuts, limited mobile data, and lack of a dedicated study space—Inderjeet sought an alternative. He found a crucial resource in a nearby village library, which provided free internet access and uninterrupted electricity, effectively transforming into his personal coaching center.

Inderjeet credits his parents' unwavering support as instrumental in maintaining his motivation throughout his rigorous preparation period.

A Second Attempt to Success

This was not Inderjeet's first encounter with the JEE Advanced. In 2025, he qualified with a rank of approximately 27,000. Displaying strategic foresight and a strong desire for improvement, he chose to take a drop year to refine his preparation. This decision proved pivotal, leading to a substantial improvement in his 2026 rank.

Future Aspirations at IIT Roorkee

With his improved performance, Inderjeet now aims for admission to IIT Roorkee, one of the country's premier engineering institutes. He expresses particular interest in pursuing programs in Mathematics and Computing, as well as emerging fields like Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

The JEE Advanced 2026 witnessed intense competition, with IIT Roorkee, the organizing institute, reporting 1,87,389 registered candidates and 1,79,694 appearing for the examination. Out of these, 56,880 candidates qualified, including 10,107 female candidates. Inderjeet's success stands out as an inspiring example within this highly competitive landscape.
