Prime Minister Narendra Modi's much-anticipated visit to Rajasthan for the inauguration of the Pachpadra refinery has been postponed following a fire incident at the site. The Ministry of Petroleum confirmed the delay, stating that the event, originally slated for April 21, 2026, would be rescheduled.
Fire Incident at Crude Distillation Unit
The fire broke out on April 20, 2026, in the vicinity of the Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) at the HRRL refinery in the Balotra district. Emergency teams and fire tenders were quickly dispatched to the scene, bringing the blaze under control. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties.
An investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident and to implement necessary remedial measures. The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas assured that a revised date for the dedication ceremony would be announced once the situation is fully assessed.
Significance of the Pachpadra Refinery
The Pachpadra refinery is a landmark project, representing India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex. It has been developed with a substantial investment exceeding Rs 79,450 crore, highlighting its strategic importance to the nation's energy sector. Preparations were in full swing for the high-profile inauguration, making the postponement a significant setback for the project's timeline.
