Prime Minister Narendra Modi lauded the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) as a pivotal force behind India's remarkable fintech transformation. Speaking at the Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai, he advocated for expanding UPI's global presence, citing its role in making financial services widely accessible.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) in Mumbai, highlighting India's exceptional progress in the fintech sector and attributing much of this success to the Unified Payments Interface (UPI). He described UPI as a major champion of India's fintech story, emphasizing its role in making financial services accessible to a vast population.

UPI's Decade of Digital Transformation

Modi noted that UPI recently completed a decade of operations, transforming how financial transactions are conducted across the nation. He recalled initial skepticism when he spoke of banking being at one's fingertips, contrasting it with the present reality where thousands of UPI transactions occur every second. The Prime Minister underscored that any discussion about India's fintech landscape would be incomplete without acknowledging UPI's profound impact.

Advocating for Global UPI Expansion

Beyond its domestic achievements, PM Modi stressed the importance of expanding UPI's footprint globally. He called for India to extend its digital payment network to countries with which it conducts business, citing the successful integration with Singapore. This partnership has made cross-border transactions as seamless as making payments between two Indian cities, illustrating the potential for broader international adoption.

India's Economic Momentum

During his address, Modi also highlighted India's robust economic performance, including its 7.8% growth rate and improving sovereign ratings. He reiterated the government's commitment to accelerating India's reform agenda, positioning the nation as a significant player in the global economic landscape.
