Physics Wallah founder Alakh Pandey has announced his unconditional support for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's newly unveiled initiative to provide free online coaching for competitive examinations. Modi made the significant announcement during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on Saturday, aiming to alleviate the financial strain on middle-class families.
PM Modi's Vision for Accessible Education
During his Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi highlighted the growing burden of private coaching institutes on Indian families. He stated, "The race for coaching classes has become a massive burden for our middle-class families... We are concerned about the thousands of crores of rupees these poor and middle-class families spend; we want to save them that expense."
The Prime Minister outlined a plan to leverage India's robust digital public infrastructure and its vast pool of talented educators. This network will establish a nationwide system offering free online coaching for various competitive exams, including entrance tests for medical, engineering, and civil services.
Alakh Pandey Offers Unconditional Support
Responding to the announcement, Alakh Pandey, a prominent figure in online education, expressed his full backing for the government's plan. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he affirmed, "I offer my unconditional support to Govt for this. I don't want any profits in return. Quality Education should be free for Every kid of India."
Pandey emphasized his long-held belief that online platforms are the most effective way to deliver quality education to remote towns and villages across the country. He noted, however, that the ultimate success of the initiative would hinge on its effective execution on the ground.
Addressing India's Competitive Exam Culture
The announcement comes at a crucial time when competitive examinations remain a significant focus for millions of young Indians aspiring to careers in various professional fields. The initiative seeks to democratize access to preparation resources, ensuring that financial constraints do not hinder deserving students from pursuing their ambitions.
Beyond free online coaching, Prime Minister Modi also introduced other youth-centric programs during his Independence Day address, including an AI skilling initiative and the establishment of a sports talent hub.
