Physics Wallah CEO Slams NTA Over NEET Paper Leak; CBI Probes Irregularities

· · 2 min read

Physics Wallah CEO Alakh Pandey has strongly criticized the National Testing Agency (NTA) following a suspected NEET-UG 2026 paper leak. His remarks come as the CBI launches a formal inquiry into alleged exam irregularities.

Alakh Pandey, CEO of the ed-tech firm Physics Wallah, has publicly denounced the National Testing Agency (NTA) amidst allegations of a paper leak connected to the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Speaking out on May 13, 2026, Pandey asserted that even schools manage examinations more effectively than the NTA, highlighting the profound distress experienced by students and the significant financial and emotional investment made by their families.

Pandey underscored the immense pressure on aspiring medical students, many of whom dedicate years, including dropping out of higher secondary education, to prepare for the NEET exam. He shared anecdotal examples of families making substantial sacrifices, such as mothers selling jewelry or fathers foregoing new clothes, to support their children's dreams of becoming doctors. The alleged leak, he argued, shatters this trust and effort.

CBI Launches Formal Investigation

In response to the growing outrage, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has initiated a formal inquiry into the suspected irregularities. The investigation follows a written complaint submitted by the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education, requesting a thorough probe into the conduct of the medical entrance examination.

The CBI has registered a First Information Report (FIR) under various sections, including criminal conspiracy, cheating, criminal breach of trust, theft, and provisions of the Public Examination Prevention of Unfair Means Act, 2024. Special investigation teams have been dispatched to multiple locations across India to assess the scope of the alleged malpractice and identify all involved parties. The agency aims to determine the extent of the irregularities and whether an organized network or individuals are responsible for leaking question papers or manipulating the examination process.

NTA Cancels Exam, Pledges Refunds

Amid the unfolding controversy, NTA Director General Abhishek Singh confirmed the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2026 examination. Speaking at a press conference in New Delhi, Singh stated that the decision was made because even the "slightest doubt" regarding the fairness of the process could not be overlooked. He assured candidates that all examination fees would be refunded, and a fresh examination would be conducted without any additional charges to students.
