Panna Tribal Family Strikes Diamond Twice: New Gem Worth ₹30 Lakh Found

· · 2 min read

A tribal family in Madhya Pradesh's Panna district has discovered an 11.19-carat diamond, estimated at ₹30 lakh, just two years after their previous 19.22-carat find fetched ₹93 lakh. The family continues mining and plans to invest the new proceeds.

A Fortuitous Second Find

A tribal family in Madhya Pradesh's renowned diamond-rich Panna district has once again struck a significant fortune. Two years after unearthing a 19.22-carat diamond that sold for ₹93 lakh at a government auction, the family has now discovered another gem-quality stone, an 11.19-carat diamond estimated to be worth approximately ₹30 lakh.

Labourer Rakesh Adivasi, along with his three brothers and other relatives, had secured a mining lease in the Ahirgaon area this past April. They commenced operations on private land, diligently working for two months before their efforts were rewarded with the precious find.

According to Panna Diamond Inspector Nutan Jain, the 11.19-carat diamond is indeed of gem quality. The family promptly deposited the stone with the government diamond office, as per protocol. The diamond is slated to be offered for sale at an upcoming government auction, with the proceeds, after royalty deductions, to be deposited into the family's designated bank account.

Continued Dedication to Mining

The latest discovery has brought renewed excitement to the Adivasi family, who, despite their earlier windfall, never ceased their mining activities. Raju Adivasi, Rakesh's brother, confirmed that while the ₹93 lakh from their previous diamond significantly improved their financial situation, their commitment to working in the mines remained unwavering.

Rakesh Adivasi stated that the funds generated from the upcoming auction of the new diamond would be strategically invested. The family plans to establish additional mining operations, enabling them to expand their search for more diamonds and further capitalize on Panna's rich reserves.

Madhya Pradesh's Panna district holds international recognition for its diamond reserves. Occasional discoveries there have been known to transform the lives of miners and labourers overnight. For the Adivasi family, this life-altering transformation has now occurred not just once, but twice.
