Ola Electric recently unveiled its S1Z electric scooter range, marking a significant step in making electric mobility more accessible to Indian consumers. The new scooters incorporate Ola's indigenously developed Bharat Cell lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology, targeting the mass-market segment with competitive pricing and advanced features.
Affordable Pricing and Variants
The Ola S1Z electric scooter is available in two variants: a 3.1 kWh model priced at an introductory ₹79,999 and a 5.1 kWh model at ₹99,999 (both ex-showroom). The 3.1 kWh variant offers an IDC (Indian Driving Cycle) range of up to 179 km, while the higher-capacity 5.1 kWh model boasts an impressive 301 km IDC range.
Deliveries for the 3.1 kWh version are projected to commence in December 2026, with the 5.1 kWh model following in March 2027. Customers can choose from four distinct colors: White, Anthracite, Sky Splash Blue, and Matcha Green, all equipped with 12-inch wheels.
Pioneering Bharat Cell LFP Technology
A key highlight of the Ola S1Z electric scooter is its use of the indigenous 46-series LFP cell platform technology, making it the first scooter range in India to do so. These advanced cells are developed at Ola's Battery Innovation Centre and manufactured at its Ola Gigafactory.
By bringing cell development and manufacturing in-house, Ola Electric aims to significantly reduce battery costs, which are typically the largest component of an electric vehicle's price. This strategic move makes advanced LFP battery technology more affordable and accessible to a broader consumer base. LFP chemistry also offers enhanced safety, improved longevity, and enables higher-range electric scooters for the value segment.
Bhavish Aggarwal, Chairman and Managing Director of Ola Electric, emphasized the importance of indigenous battery technology reaching everyday consumers. "The S1Z delivers on that promise. It is the first scooter range to bring our made-in-India LFP technology to the heart of the market, where millions of customers make their mobility decisions," Aggarwal stated.
Smart Features with MoveOS 5
The S1Z electric scooter runs on Ola’s MoveOS 5 software platform, offering a suite of intelligent features designed to enhance the riding experience. These include cruise control, advanced regenerative braking, reverse mode, and integrated GPS navigation. The scooter also supports over-the-air (OTA) software updates, ensuring it stays current with the latest functionalities.
Additional features accessible via the Ola Electric app include geo, time, and mode fencing, comprehensive ride statistics, and energy insights. The S1Z also incorporates Ola’s Easy Park feature, simplifying maneuvers in tight parking spaces with a simple twist of the wrist.
Expanding Retail Presence
The launch of the Ola S1Z electric scooter coincides with a new phase in Ola Electric’s retail strategy. The company plans to expand its reach by ramping up product availability through dealer-operated stores, complementing its existing network of company-owned retail outlets. This expansion aims to make the S1Z, and future products, more readily available to customers across India.
