India's renewable energy sector received a significant boost with two major announcements from NTPC Green Energy Ltd and Juniper Green Energy Ltd. Both companies have commissioned substantial new capacities in Rajasthan, further strengthening the nation's clean energy grid.
NTPC Green Energy Commissions New Solar Capacity
NTPC Green Energy Ltd announced that the second and third parts of its solar project in Bikaner, Rajasthan, have achieved commercial operation. These additions contribute 73.06 MW and 80.88 MW respectively, bringing the combined new solar capacity to 153.94 MW. This project is being developed by NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC Green Energy. Following these latest additions, the total commercial capacity of the NTPC Green Energy group now stands at 11,212.51 MW, up from 11,058.57 MW.
Juniper Green Energy Expands Battery Storage
Meanwhile, Juniper Green Energy Ltd's subsidiary, Juniper Green Cosmic Private Ltd, commissioned 100.64 MWh of Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) capacity. This new BESS capacity is part of the Bikaner Phase II project in Rajasthan and commenced operations on September 29. With this commissioning, the subsidiary's aggregate BESS capacity has doubled from 100.64 MWh to 201.28 MWh. The company stated that Juniper Green Energy and its subsidiaries now have an aggregate operational capacity of approximately 2,725 MWp, alongside around 600 MWh of BESS capacity.
These strategic capacity additions by both NTPC Green Energy and Juniper Green Energy underscore the ongoing expansion in India's renewable energy generation and storage infrastructure, crucial for meeting growing energy demands and climate targets.
