NTA Under Fire: UGC-NET Paper Leak Allegations Emerge After NEET Scandal

· · 2 min read

The National Testing Agency (NTA) faces fresh scrutiny over alleged paper leaks for the UGC-NET June 2026 sociology exam. A 100-page PDF, reportedly containing nearly 90 matching questions, circulated before the test, fueling political controversy.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is once again embroiled in controversy, just weeks after the NEET-UG examination faced widespread allegations of a paper leak. Fresh claims have now surfaced regarding the UGC-NET June 2026 sociology paper, suggesting it was compromised before candidates even sat the exam.

According to reports, a 100-page PDF document, allegedly linked to the NTA's internal question paper setting process, was circulated ahead of the UGC-NET sociology exam. Investigators are examining claims that approximately 90 questions within this document precisely matched those on the actual examination paper.

Political Outcry and Investigation Demands

The allegations gained significant traction on Wednesday when Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, raised concerns on social media platform X. Sharing a media report, Gandhi highlighted that the pre-circulated PDF should have been accessible only to NTA insiders. He expressed shock at the serious allegations, noting their timing so soon after the NEET paper leak.

Gandhi further alleged that the leaked question paper was reportedly being sold for ₹2.25 lakh across several Indian states, including Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. He also claimed that the same network involved in this alleged leak had offered papers for upcoming examinations such as CSIR-NET, HTET, and ADA.

Beyond Leaks: Quality Concerns Emerge

Adding to the NTA's woes, candidates who took the UGC-NET sociology exam have reported a separate set of complaints. Numerous examinees pointed out multiple spelling errors, distorted names of prominent academic thinkers, and poor Hindi translations within the paper. These issues have raised serious questions about the overall quality of the NTA's paper-setting and moderation processes, compounding the existing concerns about examination integrity.

High Stakes for India's Academic Future

The UGC-NET examination holds immense importance for India's academic community. It serves as a crucial determinant for eligibility for assistant professorships, junior research fellowships, and admission to PhD programmes across the country. The current scandal places significant pressure on both the NTA and the Ministry of Education.

This latest controversy comes at a particularly sensitive time, as the government had previously pledged to implement stricter safeguards for high-stakes national exams in the wake of the NEET-UG fallout. With the UGC-NET now under a similar cloud of suspicion, the demand for accountability and robust reforms within the national testing system is escalating.
