· · 2 min read

NSE IFSC, a subsidiary of India's National Stock Exchange, has introduced Nifty India FPI 150 Futures and Options contracts. These new derivatives, denominated in USD, offer global investors direct exposure to 150 top Indian companies from GIFT City.

The NSE International Financial Services Centre (IFSC) in GIFT City, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, officially launched Nifty India FPI 150 Futures and Options contracts on August 12, 2026. This significant development provides global investors with a new, efficient avenue to engage with the Indian equity market.

New Opportunities for Foreign Portfolio Investors

The Nifty India FPI 150 Index, which these new contracts track, is designed to reflect the performance of 150 of the largest Indian companies by free-float market capitalization. Crucially, these companies are specifically accessible to Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs).

The introduction of these futures and options contracts aims to facilitate easier and more cost-effective participation for international investors. By offering these derivatives in USD and making them cash-settled, NSE IFSC addresses key logistical and currency considerations for global market participants.

Benefits of Trading from GIFT City

Trading these new Nifty India FPI 150 derivatives through NSE IFSC offers several advantages. Investors can manage their portfolio risk and gain exposure to the Indian equity market from an international exchange platform, specifically within India's dedicated financial hub, GIFT City.

  • USD Denominated: Contracts are settled in US Dollars, simplifying currency management for international investors.
  • Cash Settled: All contracts are cash-settled, reducing physical delivery complexities.
  • Tax Efficiency: Operating within the IFSC framework often provides attractive tax benefits.
  • Direct Exposure: Offers a direct way to invest in a diversified portfolio of leading Indian companies.

This initiative by NSE IFSC strengthens India's position as an emerging global financial hub, attracting more foreign capital and enhancing liquidity in the Indian market indirectly through its international gateway.

The Role of NSE IFSC

NSE IFSC is the international arm of the National Stock Exchange of India, operating within the special economic zone of GIFT City. Its mandate is to provide a platform for trading a wide array of financial products for international clients, helping to connect global capital with Indian opportunities.

The launch of Nifty India FPI 150 Futures and Options is a strategic move to deepen the product offerings available to FPIs and further integrate India's capital markets with the global financial system.
