Tata Motors is gearing up to introduce the next iteration of its popular Nexon compact SUV in 2027, with the vehicle, internally codenamed 'Garud', slated to hit the market ahead of the company's premium Avinya electric vehicle series. This strategic launch aims to bolster Tata Motors' competitive stance in India's highly contested compact SUV segment.
Anticipated 2027 Debut and Production Expansion
According to industry reports, the next-generation Nexon is expected to launch during the second quarter of 2027, specifically between April and June, though Tata Motors has yet to announce an official date. The company has reportedly instructed suppliers to prepare for increased production volumes, aligning with a broader product expansion strategy. Tata Motors is targeting a monthly production capacity of up to 100,000 passenger vehicles from the upcoming fiscal year.
Significant Design and Technology Enhancements
The upcoming Nexon is projected to undergo substantial changes across its exterior, interior, and underlying structure. Buyers can anticipate a more refined cabin, larger infotainment screens, and advanced connected-car technologies. Furthermore, the new model is expected to incorporate advanced driver-assistance features (ADAS), enhancing both safety and convenience.
Improved Platform and Powertrain Options
- Platform: The new Nexon will likely utilize a significantly modified version of Tata's existing X1 platform. This architectural update is expected to bring improvements in structural strength, cabin spaciousness, and the integration of sophisticated electronic systems.
- Powertrains: Tata Motors plans to maintain its multi-powertrain approach. The next-gen Nexon is expected to offer petrol and CNG variants, with a new-generation Nexon EV also anticipated to join the lineup, either simultaneously or shortly after the internal combustion engine models.
Upon its release, the updated Nexon will continue to compete against established rivals such as the Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, and Skoda Kylaq.
Avinya Series to Follow
Following the launch of the next-generation Nexon, Tata Motors intends to roll out its premium electric vehicles under the Avinya brand. These launches are part of a comprehensive strategy to introduce six new nameplates and significantly expand the company's overall passenger vehicle portfolio.
