The Uttar Pradesh government has approved plans for a new 74-kilometer, six-lane access-controlled road designed to significantly improve connectivity to the upcoming Noida International Airport. This crucial infrastructure project will establish a direct link between the airport region and the Ganga Expressway, utilizing a section of the Yamuna Expressway.
Strategic Connectivity for Noida Airport
The new corridor, which can be expanded to eight lanes in the future, is projected to be completed within three years. It will commence at the 24.8-kilometer mark of the Yamuna Expressway, near Film City in YEIDA Sector 21, and extend to the Ganga Expressway near Syana in Bulandshahr. This route is expected to provide a high-capacity connection to eastern and central parts of Uttar Pradesh, reducing reliance on the existing road network around Greater Noida.
Project Details and Phased Construction
The comprehensive project will traverse 56 villages, including eight in Noida and 48 in Bulandshahr district. Land acquisition is already in advanced stages, with nearly 90 percent of the required land in the Yamuna Authority area secured. Approximately 23 hectares in Mehdipur and Bhaipur villages are still pending acquisition.
Construction will proceed in two phases:
- Phase One: Covers a 24-kilometer stretch from Bhaipur Brahmanan in Greater Noida to Bichaula village in Bulandshahr.
- Phase Two: Extends for 50 kilometers from Bichaula to Bahanpur in the Syana area.
Notably, about 20 kilometers of the proposed road will pass through the 'New Noida' region, officially known as the Dadri-Noida-Ghaziabad Investment Region, further bolstering its development.
Advanced Infrastructure and Safety Features
The new expressway will feature modern infrastructure to ensure smooth and safe travel. Planned components include:
- Seven underpasses
- Eleven minor bridges
- Three major bridges
- One flyover
- Four railroad overbridges
Additionally, the corridor will incorporate service roads, culverts, interchanges, advanced drainage systems, protective fencing, traffic control systems, CCTV cameras, emergency telephones, and a central control centre for efficient management and monitoring.
Broader Impact and Regional Development
This 74-km road is a critical component of a larger infrastructure expansion initiative surrounding Jewar, where the Noida International Airport is taking shape. It aims to improve access for motorists traveling towards Bulandshahr and areas connected to the Ganga Expressway, while also supporting the industrial and commercial growth anticipated in the region.
Several other significant road projects are also underway to enhance connectivity to the airport, including the 50-kilometer Yamuna Pushta Elevated Road, the Chilla Elevated Road, and the Faridabad-Jewar Greenfield Expressway. These interconnected projects are designed to create multiple access points to the airport from various parts of the National Capital Region (NCR) and western Uttar Pradesh.
Benefits for Commuters and the NCR
The new corridor's full benefits will become evident as the Noida International Airport scales up its passenger and cargo operations. It promises improved accessibility from Bulandshahr and regions linked by the Ganga Expressway, simultaneously supporting the emerging New Noida industrial hub. For the wider NCR, the overall impact will largely depend on the timely completion and seamless integration of these new corridors with existing expressways, local roads, and public transport networks, ensuring the expanding road infrastructure can effectively manage future traffic demands.
