Nasscom Calls TCS Nashik Case Isolated, Affirms IT Sector Safety Priority

· · 2 min read

Nasscom has labeled the alleged misconduct at TCS Nashik an isolated incident, stating it doesn't reflect systemic issues in the IT sector. The industry body emphasized strong governance and employee safety, even as Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran called the allegations "gravely concerning" and launched a probe.

The National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom) has publicly addressed the serious allegations of misconduct at Tata Consultancy Services' (TCS) Nashik office, firmly stating that the incident is isolated and does not indicate any systemic issues within the broader Indian IT sector. In a detailed statement released Tuesday, Nasscom underscored the industry's robust governance frameworks and unwavering commitment to employee safety, dignity, and workplace conduct.

Industry Governance and Safety Protocols

Nasscom reiterated that the Indian technology industry operates on a foundation of respect, dignity, and safety, with companies adhering to strict codes of conduct and maintaining zero tolerance for any form of misconduct or harassment. The industry body highlighted that organizations across the sector have established comprehensive preventive and redressal mechanisms, ensuring that all complaints are handled promptly and sensitively, in full compliance with statutory requirements. Disciplinary actions in such cases are swift and aligned with internal processes.

Tata Sons Chairman Expresses Concern, Launches Probe

The Nasscom statement comes amidst significant corporate response to the allegations. Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran described the complaints emerging from the TCS Nashik branch as "gravely concerning and anguishing." He confirmed that TCS Chief Operating Officer Arathi Subramanian would lead a comprehensive investigation to establish the facts and identify those responsible.

"This incident is being treated with utmost seriousness. Action has already been initiated against the accused employees, and the company is extending full cooperation to the ongoing investigations," Chandrasekaran stated, reiterating the Tata Group's strict zero-tolerance policy towards coercion, harassment, or misconduct.

Allegations and Ongoing Investigation

The case involves allegations from eight female employees who have accused certain colleagues of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion at the Maharashtra-based office. Following these complaints, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed by local police. Authorities have so far arrested seven individuals, including a female HR manager, as part of the probe into alleged prolonged mental and sexual harassment and inaction by the human resources department.

In its initial response, TCS had confirmed the suspension of staff members involved and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the highest standards of employee safety and workplace conduct.
