· · 2 min read

MSCI has added Adani Energy Solutions, Groww, Laurus Labs, and Lenskart to its Global Standard indices, while removing Astral, Balkrishna Industries, and SBI Cards. India's weight in the index will rise to 11.9% from 11.8%.

Global index provider MSCI announced significant adjustments to its MSCI Global Standard indices as part of its August 2026 review. Four prominent Indian stocks are set for inclusion, while three will be removed, impacting India's overall representation and weight in the crucial benchmark.

Key Inclusions and Exclusions

Among the companies joining the prestigious MSCI India Index are Adani group's Adani Energy Solutions Ltd, Groww parent Billionbrains Garage Ventures Ltd, Laurus Labs Ltd, and Lenskart Solutions Ltd. These additions are expected to drive substantial passive inflows from exchange-traded funds and other investors tracking MSCI benchmarks.

Conversely, three stocks will be removed from the index: Astral Ltd, Balkrishna Industries Ltd, and SBI Cards and Payment Services Ltd. These changes reflect MSCI's periodic rebalancing based on market capitalization, free float, and liquidity criteria.

Impact on India's Index Weight

Following this latest rejig, the number of Indian constituents in the key MSCI index will increase from 165 to 166. More notably, India's weight in the MSCI Global Standard Index is projected to rise to 11.9 per cent, up from its previous 11.8 per cent. This increase underscores the growing significance of the Indian market on the global investment stage.

Nuvama Alternative and Quantitative Research estimates that Indian stocks could collectively receive net passive inflows of approximately $1 billion due to this MSCI rebalancing. Specific estimated inflows include about $598 million for Laurus Labs, $352 million for Lenskart, $310 million for Adani Energy Solutions, and $256 million for Groww.

Small Cap Index and Effective Date

In addition to the Global Standard indices, MSCI will also make changes to its MSCI Global Small Cap indices, adding 14 Indian stocks and removing 19. Notable additions to the Small Cap indices include L&T Technology Services Ltd, Ather Energy Ltd, Dalmia Bharat Ltd, Urban Company, and Astral Ltd (which moves from the Global Standard to Small Cap). Stocks like Aurionpro Solutions Ltd and ICRA Ltd are among those being excluded from the Small Cap indices.

All these announced changes will be implemented after the close of trading on August 31, 2026, and will officially take effect on September 1, 2026.
