The 34th Annual Market Research Seminar hosted by the Market Research Society of India (MRSI) saw Quantum Consumer Solutions and Flipkart Internet, Knowledge Excel, and Plum Insights and Strategy take home top honors. The two-day event, themed 'The Next Human', brought together leading research experts to explore the dynamic interplay of changing consumer behavior, emerging beauty trends, and artificial intelligence in understanding today's consumers.
Out of over 100 submissions, 22 papers were shortlisted, culminating in awards across three distinct categories. Quantum Consumer Solutions and Flipkart Internet were recognized in the 'Terrain' category for their paper, 'Mapping the Human in High Definition: What Beauty Reveals About India’s Next Human'. Knowledge Excel received the 'Compass' award for 'Confidence Before Conclusions: Developing the Analytical Insight Confidence Framework'. Finally, Plum Insights and Strategy secured the 'Instruments' category award for their study, 'The Last Mile of Judgement: A Field Study of How Researchers Negotiate Authorship with AI'.
AI's Evolving Role in Consumer Understanding
A significant portion of the seminar was dedicated to discussing how AI is reshaping consumer research methodologies. Dr. A.K. Pradeep, Founder and CEO of Sensori.ai, delivered a keynote on extracting insights and commercial wins from the nonconscious consumer mind. He emphasized that while Generative AI offers vast potential for ideas and solutions, understanding genuine consumer resonance remains paramount. Dr. Pradeep highlighted that AI can accelerate innovation and decision-making, but deep human behavior and emotional comprehension are still essential.
A panel titled 'More Than Meets the Eye: Understanding the Consumer in Full' further explored the rapid technological advancements, particularly in AI, and their impact on human adaptation. The discussion underscored the uncertainties of this transition and the critical need to balance technological progress with a nuanced understanding of human elements.
Decoding the Next Human: Changing Consumer Dynamics
Another key session, 'The Human has Left the Segmentation. Decoding THE NEXT HUMAN,' focused on how evolving consumer contexts influence decision-making. This discussion stressed the necessity of moving beyond traditional research paradigms to develop a more granular understanding of contemporary consumer behavior.
Nitin Kamat, Chief Growth & Partnerships Officer at TAM Media Research and President of MRSI, commented on the seminar's legacy: “MRSI’s Seminar has built a legacy of igniting conversations and innovations for the research and insights sector.” He added, “Each year, we witness original papers that push brands to rethink how they approach business and their consumer and this year was no different.” Kamat concluded by noting that 'The Next Human' theme highlighted the need for deeper, more nuanced insights to navigate an increasingly complex marketplace, further strengthening India’s position as a global hub for research and insights.
The event also featured sessions on AI, robotics, and creativity by Niraj Ruparel of WPP and Vijay Raj of Insight Growth, alongside a presentation by Reshma Tonse of Context Architecture on India’s collective consciousness through symbols and narratives.
