Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) delivered a robust performance in the first quarter, according to CEO Rajesh Jejurikar. Speaking in an exclusive interaction, Jejurikar confirmed the automaker's strong Q1 earnings, which aligned with market expectations, despite prevailing economic and geopolitical uncertainties and some supply chain disruptions.
Strategic Growth in Commercial Vehicles
Jejurikar highlighted the strategic importance of the merger between Mahindra Trucks and Buses and SML. This consolidation is anticipated to significantly bolster M&M's presence in the commercial vehicle (CV) sector. The CEO stated that this move is expected to elevate the company's market share to approximately six percent, transforming it into a substantial player with an estimated annual revenue of Rs 6,000 crore in this crucial economic segment.
Leading the Electric Three-Wheeler Market
The company has also demonstrated remarkable growth in the electric three-wheeler business. Jejurikar noted that EV penetration in this segment has surged from twelve percent two years ago to nearly forty percent today. M&M stands as a clear leader in this rapidly expanding market, commanding a dominant 39.5 percent market share, underscoring its commitment to electrification and sustainable mobility solutions.
Boosting SUV Production Capacity
Addressing the strong demand for its utility vehicles, M&M is actively working to enhance its SUV production capabilities. The company aims to increase its monthly SUV manufacturing capacity from 56,000 units in March to 60,000 units. Furthermore, M&M has ambitious plans to double its current SUV production capacity by 2030, signaling confidence in sustained market demand and future growth projections.
Sustained Demand and Market Strategy
Jejurikar affirmed that M&M maintains a strong order book, with most of its products experiencing significant demand momentum. He explained the company's long-term strategy, stating, “Our strategy over the last five years has been to focus more on how do we get more people to buy into the SUV proposition.” By expanding the overall market opportunity for SUVs, M&M aims to continuously gain market share, reinforcing its position in the competitive automotive landscape.
