Maya Tata to Lead Westside's Digital Expansion Amid Trent's Global Push

· · 2 min read

Maya Tata, daughter of Trent Chairman Noel Tata, is reportedly set to head the e-commerce marketing function for Westside. Her appointment is expected to bolster the fashion retailer's digital and international growth strategies.

Maya Tata, daughter of Trent Chairman Noel Tata, is reportedly taking charge of Westside's e-commerce marketing. This strategic move is expected to significantly accelerate the fashion retailer's digital expansion and international ambitions.

The 37-year-old, who recently departed Tata Digital, is poised to leverage her extensive experience in digital commerce, customer acquisition, and online retail to guide Westside's next phase of online growth. Industry reports suggest her father, Noel Tata, who chairs Trent and is slated to retire in November, influenced this decision.

Driving Westside's Omnichannel and Global Strategy

Westside, a flagship fashion retail chain, contributes approximately 40 percent of Trent's overall revenue. The brand is aggressively pursuing an omnichannel strategy and expanding its international footprint, having already launched its first stores in the UAE.

Maya Tata's role is anticipated to be crucial in supporting Westside's overseas expansion through enhanced digital marketing and customer engagement, aiming to establish a global presence for its homegrown fashion brand. Trent has not yet issued an official statement regarding the development.

Background and Family Involvement

Prior to her reported move to Westside, Maya Tata worked at Tata Digital, which oversees various ventures including BigBasket, Tata Neu, Croma, and Tata 1mg. Before that, she was associated with Tata Capital. Her shift comes amidst reported restructuring at Tata Digital and increased scrutiny from Noel Tata regarding the venture's financial performance.

At Trent, Maya Tata will work alongside her brother, Neville Tata, who manages Trent's hypermarket business, Star Bazaar. Their sister, Leah Tata, heads the Taj chain. Unlike her siblings, Maya Tata has moved across several Tata Group companies, gaining diverse experience. All three children of Noel Tata serve on the boards of smaller entities within Tata Trusts, the primary shareholder of Tata Sons.

Future Growth and Brand Development

Trent recently announced ambitious plans to add around 50 new Westside stores annually, a substantial increase from the 48 stores opened over the preceding three years, with 52 stores added in FY26 alone. Maya Tata's expertise may also extend to Trent's broader objective of developing retail brands with international appeal. Trent currently operates Westside, Zudio, and Star Bazaar, boasting a network of 1,286 stores across 321 cities, covering 17.7 million square feet.
