The Indian car market is buzzing with anticipation as a wave of new vehicle launches and price announcements are scheduled for May 2026. From premium SUVs to innovative electric vehicles, manufacturers are gearing up to introduce several compelling models to consumers.
Honda ZR-V: Re-entering the Premium SUV Segment
Japanese automaker Honda is making a significant comeback into India's premium SUV category with the expected launch of the Honda ZR-V. This move marks Honda's re-entry years after discontinuing the CRV. The ZR-V, slated to be imported as a Completely Built Unit (CBU), is projected to carry an ex-showroom price tag exceeding Rs 40 lakh. As Honda's flagship SUV for the Indian market, it will compete with established rivals such as the Volkswagen Tiguan R-Line, Skoda Kodiaq, and Jeep Meridian. The vehicle is anticipated to feature a 2-liter petrol-hybrid engine.
Honda City Facelift 2026
Alongside the ZR-V, Honda Cars India is also preparing to unveil the 2026 facelift of its popular mid-size sedan, the Honda City. This update comes four years after the launch of the Honda City Hybrid (e:HEV) in 2022. The new City is expected to incorporate minor cosmetic changes, including revised bumpers, headlights, DRLs, and tail lights, along with some feature enhancements. No significant changes to its performance are anticipated.
Tata Sierra EV: Expanding Electric Offerings
Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles is set to launch the Sierra EV in May, strategically positioning it below the premium Harrier EV within the company's growing electric vehicle portfolio. The Sierra EV is expected to be offered in both rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) variants. It will face competition from models like the Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara, Hyundai Creta, VinFast VF6, Mahindra BE6, Windsor EV, and Toyota Kirloskar Motor's upcoming Ebella EV.
Toyota Urban Cruiser Ebella: Maruti Partnership
Although Toyota's first electric vehicle, the Urban Cruiser Ebella, was initially unveiled in January 2026, the Japanese automaker is expected to reveal its pricing details this May. Manufactured at Maruti Suzuki's Hansalpur plant in Gujarat, the Ebella is a rebadged version of Maruti's e-Vitara. It is anticipated to be priced similarly to the e-Vitara and will be available with two battery pack options: 49.1 kilowatt-hour (kWh) and 61.3 kWh. The top-tier variant promises a maximum range of 543 kilometers on a single charge, matching the e-Vitara's capabilities.
MG Majestor: Challenging the Fortuner
JSW MG Motor India, which showcased the MG Majestor earlier this year, is scheduled to announce its prices in May. This robust SUV is positioned as a direct competitor to the Toyota Fortuner. Powering the Majestor is a 2.0-liter twin-turbo diesel engine, delivering 215.5 PS and 478.5 Nm of torque. It comes paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission, available in both 2WD and 4WD configurations. The Majestor boasts a substantial 219 mm ground clearance and an 810 mm water wading capability. Furthermore, it includes Level 2 Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS) and is expected to be priced between Rs 39 lakh and Rs 45 lakh.
