Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the nation's leading automaker by volume, has confirmed a price increase of up to ₹30,000 across its entire model portfolio, effective from June 2026. This adjustment comes after the company deferred its usual annual price hike for several months.
Why the Price Adjustment?
The company stated that the decision to raise prices is a direct response to a sustained increase in input costs, which has exerted pressure on its operational expenses. While Maruti Suzuki has implemented various cost-reduction measures over recent months to mitigate this impact, the persistent inflationary pressures and an adverse cost environment necessitate passing a portion of these increased costs onto consumers.
“In view of the sustained increase in input costs, the company has decided to increase the prices of its models across its portfolio by up to ₹30,000 with effect from June 2026,” Maruti Suzuki announced in a statement.
The exact quantum of the price change will vary depending on the specific model. The company aims to keep the impact on customers to the minimum extent possible, despite the challenging economic landscape.
Strong Sales Performance Amidst Challenges
Despite the looming price adjustments, Maruti Suzuki began the 2026-27 fiscal year with robust sales figures. The company reported record monthly wholesales of 2.39 lakh units, marking the highest in its history. SUV dispatches also reached an all-time high of 55,000 units, demonstrating a sharp 142% year-on-year increase.
Exports maintained strong momentum, with 40,054 vehicles shipped in April 2026, a 43.5% rise from the previous year, even amidst disruptions in the West Asia region. Domestic sales also hit a record 1.9 lakh units during the month, reflecting a 34% annual growth. Specific segments showed impressive growth, including a 254% surge in combined sales for the Alto and S-Presso, a 74% growth in the broader compact car portfolio (comprising Alto, S-Presso, Celerio, and WagonR), and a 139% climb in Dzire sedan sales compared to the same period last year.
