Maruti Suzuki India has officially begun commercial production at the fourth plant within its expansive Hansalpur manufacturing facility in Gujarat. This significant expansion elevates the Hansalpur site's annual production capability to 1 million vehicles, making it the first Suzuki manufacturing facility globally to reach this milestone. Consequently, Maruti Suzuki's overall manufacturing capacity across India has now surged to 2.9 million units per annum.
The newly commissioned Plant D became operational on July 30, 2026, and boasts an installed capacity of 2.5 lakh units annually. This addition solidifies Hansalpur's position as India’s largest passenger vehicle manufacturing complex at a single location.
Strategic Investment and New EV Production
The construction of Plant D involved an estimated investment of ₹3,900 crore. This brings Maruti Suzuki’s cumulative investment in the Hansalpur facility to a substantial ₹25,288.7 crore. Crucially, the new plant is initially dedicated to manufacturing the company’s flagship battery electric vehicle, the e Vitara, marking a clear step towards its EV strategy.
Beyond the new e Vitara EV, the Hansalpur facility currently produces popular models such as the Baleno, Fronx, and Swift. It also plays a vital role as a key export hub for Maruti Suzuki, accounting for nearly 47% of the company's overseas shipments in the fiscal year 2026.
Meeting Demand and Global Ambitions
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director and CEO of Maruti Suzuki India, emphasized Gujarat's emergence as a pivotal manufacturing and export center for the company. He stated that the enhanced production line is crucial for addressing both rising domestic and international demand, while simultaneously strengthening the company’s “Make in India, Make for the World” initiative. Takeuchi also highlighted that the Hansalpur facility, along with the upcoming Sanand plant, will be instrumental in achieving Maruti Suzuki’s ambitious long-term target of producing 4 million vehicles annually in India.
Following the activation of Plant D, Maruti Suzuki’s manufacturing footprint in India now includes Hansalpur with 1 million units of annual capacity, Manesar with 9 lakh units, Gurugram with 5 lakh units, and Kharkhoda contributing another 5 lakh units, collectively reaching the 2.9 million vehicle capacity.
