Maruti Suzuki India Ltd., the nation's largest carmaker, has reported its highest-ever annual production volume, manufacturing 2.34 million passenger vehicles during the Financial Year 2025-26. This represents an impressive 11.66% growth compared to the 2.1 million units produced in FY25, highlighting robust performance in the automotive sector.
The record production aligns with India's overall passenger vehicle sales, which climbed 8% year-on-year to reach an all-time high of 4.7 million units in FY26. Several popular Maruti Suzuki models, including the Dzire, Fronx, Swift, Ertiga, and Baleno, were key contributors to this achievement, with each surpassing the 2-lakh-unit production mark during the year.
Record Growth Drivers and Strategic Vision
Hisashi Takeuchi, Managing Director & CEO of Maruti Suzuki, emphasized the significance of this milestone. “Very few companies across the world have been able to manufacture such large volumes in a single country,” Takeuchi stated, attributing the success to a meticulously developed automobile ecosystem spanning over four and a half decades.
Takeuchi also highlighted the supportive policy environment, including the rollout of GST 2.0, which he noted strengthened market confidence and stimulated demand at a critical juncture. Beyond domestic achievements, Maruti Suzuki also saw a substantial 34% year-on-year growth in export volumes, shipping 447,000 vehicles in FY26.
Expanding Capacity for Future Growth
Maruti Suzuki currently operates four manufacturing facilities located in Gurugram, Manesar, Kharkhoda (all in Haryana), and Hansalpur (Gujarat), collectively possessing an annual production capacity of 2.4 million units. To sustain its growth trajectory, the company has identified land for a fifth manufacturing facility at Khoraj Industrial Estate in Sanand, Gujarat.
Once fully operational, this new facility is projected to add an annual production capacity of 1 million units, significantly boosting the company's manufacturing capabilities. Maruti Suzuki currently produces 17 models with over 650 variants to cater to both domestic and international markets. The Japanese automaker has an ambitious plan to further scale up its total production to 4 million units annually by FY31.
“Our parent company, Suzuki Motor Corporation’s strong belief in India’s growth story, along with an increased focus on developing India as an export hub, is enabling us to further expand our production capacity. We aim to scale it to about 40 lakh units per annum,” Takeuchi affirmed, underscoring the long-term strategic commitment to India.
