What started as a singular career path for Wahengbam Sureiya in 2014 has blossomed into a shared professional journey with her younger brother, Rohit Singh. Both siblings, originally from Imphal, Manipur, now serve as cabin crew for Air India, navigating global destinations and the unique lifestyle that comes with aviation.
From Inspiration to Shared Profession
Sureiya was the first in her family to pursue a career in aviation. Drawn by the allure of travel, meeting diverse people, and a job where no two days were alike, she embarked on her journey as cabin crew in 2014. Her experiences deeply resonated with Rohit, who grew up listening to her captivating stories about different cities and the adventures she brought home.
"She was the first one in our family to dream about a career in aviation," Rohit recalled. "Seeing her become cabin crew and travel to different parts of the world inspired me. I loved hearing about her experiences, and eventually I decided to follow in her footsteps."
Rohit subsequently joined Air India, following the trail his elder sister had blazed years prior.

Working for the same airline has forged a unique connection between Sureiya and Rohit, transcending their familial relationship. The demanding nature of their jobs—long-haul flights, ever-changing rosters, irregular hours, and extended periods away from home—are experiences they inherently understand in each other without needing elaborate explanations.
Sureiya highlights how their shared profession has brought them closer. "We understand each other’s schedules, long flights and tired days," she explained, noting that their relationship has evolved "from being just siblings to being colleagues." They now share work insights, offer mutual support, and learn from one another's experiences.
For Rohit, having a sibling who truly comprehends his daily life and the aviation lifestyle is particularly meaningful. "We understand each other's work and the lifestyle that comes with it," he affirmed.
Moments of Connection, Miles Apart
While they don't always operate the same flights, their paths occasionally cross at airports during standby duties. These moments become cherished opportunities to catch up, tease each other, and simply enjoy time together. Even when working separately, they exchange flight stories, discuss challenges, and offer advice based on their extensive experiences.
One memorable incident involved a shared cab ride home after a standby assignment. Since they live together, the Air India transport system assigned them the same vehicle. The driver, upon seeing two crew members with the same address, jokingly asked, "When did Air India start hiring family packages?" This amusing anecdote has since become a running joke between them.
Small Gestures, Big Comfort
Despite their global travels, the siblings maintain their connection through simple, heartfelt gestures. For Rohit, a phone call from Sureiya asking about his day or if he's eaten, no matter where he is in the world, brings a sense of home. Similarly, Sureiya finds comfort when Rohit, if off-duty, prepares a warm meal for her after she returns from a long trip, instantly making her feel at ease.
