Manipal Health: JPMorgan, Jefferies, Goldman Sachs Set Share Price Targets

· · 3 min read

Global brokerages initiated coverage on Manipal Health Enterprises. JPMorgan and BNP Paribas issued 'Neutral' ratings, while Jefferies and Goldman Sachs recommended 'Buy' with targets up to Rs 870, citing strong growth prospects.

A consortium of global brokerages has initiated coverage on Manipal Health Enterprises Ltd., offering varied outlooks on the hospital chain's stock. While some analysts issued 'Neutral' ratings, others recommended 'Buy,' setting price targets that reflect confidence in the company's growth trajectory.

Brokerage Ratings and Price Targets

JPMorgan's Bansi Desai assigned a 'Neutral' rating with a target price of Rs 800 per share for Manipal Health. Desai's valuation aligns with Apollo Hospitals Ltd., albeit at a 10-15 percent discount to Max Healthcare. Similarly, BNP Paribas analyst Tausif Shaikh also suggested a 'Neutral' rating, but with a slightly lower target of Rs 720 apiece.

In contrast, Jefferies' Alok Dalal initiated coverage with a 'Buy' recommendation, setting an ambitious target of Rs 870. Goldman Sachs' Shyam Srinivasan echoed this positive sentiment, also recommending a 'Buy' with a target price of Rs 865.

Growth Drivers and Strategic Vision

JPMorgan's Desai anticipates Manipal Health's revenue to achieve a 15 percent annualised growth through March 2029. This growth is expected to be fueled by recent hospital acquisitions and a planned addition of approximately 2,600 beds by 2030. However, the acquisition of Sahyadri Hospitals is noted as a potential short-term drag on return on capital, making its successful integration and operational ramp-up crucial for investor confidence.

Jefferies highlighted Manipal Hospitals as India's third-largest hospital chain, boasting strong operational and financial metrics. The firm praised Manipal's diversified geographical presence, its unique leadership in three major metropolitan areas, a proven track record of revitalizing acquired assets, and a balanced approach to greenfield expansion. These factors are expected to drive 17 percent revenue growth and 19 percent EBITDA growth over the fiscal years 2026-2029.

Key Triggers and Potential Risks

Near-term catalysts for Manipal Health include improved profitability from the Sahyadri acquisition, the scaling up of existing bed capacities, and the timely addition of new beds. Conversely, key risks identified by analysts include potential execution challenges that could hinder profitability improvements at Sahyadri and increased competitive pressures, particularly in the Bengaluru market.

Looking ahead, Manipal Health plans to expand its capacity by 2,426 beds between FY26 and FY30, representing 26 percent of its current capacity. A significant portion, 1,943 beds (about 80 percent), will come from greenfield projects, with the remaining 483 beds from brownfield expansions. Jefferies noted that greenfield expansions are strategically located in existing strong markets like Karnataka and Maharashtra to facilitate rapid ramp-up, while brownfield additions focus on the top three current markets. This expansion strategy is poised to strengthen Manipal's competitive advantage in its core operational regions.
