Mahindra & Mahindra is moving forward with plans to establish its largest integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility in India, with the company set to take possession of the initial 800 acres of land in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This ambitious greenfield project, located in Additional Butibori within Nagpur's Vidarbha region, is poised to significantly boost the automaker's production capabilities and contribute to regional employment.
Massive Production Capacity and Supplier Support
Once fully operational, the Nagpur facility is projected to achieve an annual production capacity exceeding 5 lakh vehicles and 1 lakh tractors. This scale will solidify its position as Mahindra's most extensive integrated manufacturing hub nationwide. The entire project will eventually span 1,500 acres, complemented by a dedicated 150-acre supplier park situated in Sambhajinagar.
The supplier park in Sambhajinagar will play a crucial role, providing essential components not only to the new Nagpur plant but also supporting Mahindra's existing manufacturing operations in Chakan and Nashik.
Focus on Workforce Development and Skilling
Beyond the physical infrastructure, Mahindra is making substantial investments in developing the skilled workforce necessary to operate this state-of-the-art plant. The company has committed to implementing comprehensive processes designed to identify, develop, and skill talent across various manufacturing disciplines for automobiles and tractors, encompassing multiple powertrains and future technologies.
Dedicated Skilling Centre in Nagpur
A key component of this strategy is the planned establishment of a dedicated skilling centre in Nagpur. This centre will offer specialized training focused on critical areas such as mechanical operations, welding, and painting, ensuring a pipeline of qualified personnel for the facility.
Mahindra also intends to leverage the expertise of its current employees. Over the next two to three years, skilled and experienced associates from existing manufacturing operations will have the opportunity to participate in a detailed selection process for roles at the new Nagpur facility. This process will rigorously assess technical capability, demonstrated behaviors, alignment with Mahindra's core values, and the ability to collaborate effectively within a new operational environment.
Further details regarding workforce requirements, specific opportunities, and associated selection processes will be communicated as the project progresses towards its operational phase.
