Mahindra SUV Sales Soar 50% in August Amid Strong Demand

· · 2 min read

Mahindra & Mahindra reported a 50% surge in domestic SUV sales for August 2026, reaching 59,257 units. This robust performance contributed to a 42% overall vehicle sales growth, totaling 107,648 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) announced a significant boost in its automotive division, with domestic Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV) sales climbing by an impressive 50% in August 2026. The company sold 59,257 SUVs within the Indian market during the month.

This strong SUV performance contributed to a substantial 42% year-over-year increase in total vehicle sales, which reached 107,648 units for August. Velusamy R, President of Automotive Business at Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., attributed this growth to sustained demand across their product portfolio.

Demand Driven by Popular Models

Velusamy R specifically highlighted the updated Scorpio-N and the new BE 6 SPORTEQ models as receiving strong market responses from customers. "Demand continues to remain strong across our portfolio," he stated, expressing optimism for continued momentum into the upcoming festive season.

Expansion of Manufacturing Capabilities

The sales success comes alongside Mahindra’s ongoing efforts to expand its manufacturing footprint. The company is in the process of acquiring approximately 800 acres for a new, integrated automobile and tractor manufacturing facility at Additional Butibori in Nagpur, Maharashtra. This facility, announced earlier in the year, is planned to span 1,500 acres.

Once fully operational, the greenfield plant is projected to have an annual production capacity exceeding 500,000 vehicles and 100,000 tractors, making it Mahindra's largest integrated manufacturing site in India. A complementary 150-acre supplier park in Sambhajinagar will support both the new Nagpur facility and existing Mahindra plants in Chakan and Nashik.

Skilling Initiatives for Future Growth

In conjunction with the facility's development, Mahindra is also investing in human capital, building the necessary skills and capabilities for the project. This includes identifying and training talent for manufacturing across various powertrains and future technologies. Plans are also underway to establish a dedicated skilling center in Nagpur, focusing on areas such as mechanical operations, welding, and painting.
