The Maharashtra Teachers Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, originally slated for June 28 across 1,028 centers statewide, has been postponed indefinitely. This decision comes after an alleged question paper leak was uncovered during a police raid in Bhiwandi, prompting concerns about examination integrity.
Over 4.28 lakh candidates, including many currently working teachers, had registered for the MAHA TET 2026, leading to more than six lakh applications for Papers 1 and 2. The postponement significantly impacts these aspirants.
Police Action Uncovers Leak
The Maharashtra State Examination Council's director, Nandkumar Bedse, confirmed that confidential information was received by police on June 27. The tip-off indicated that individuals in Bhiwandi had unauthorized access to the TET question paper.
Acting swiftly, Bhiwandi Police conducted a raid. Officials from the examination council were called to verify the material seized during the operation. During this verification process, it was confirmed that some questions found in the seized documents precisely matched those in the actual TET 2026 question paper.
Investigation Underway
Following the confirmation of the leak, a criminal case has been registered, and an investigation is actively underway. Police are working to determine the full extent of the paper leak, how it occurred, and whether more individuals are involved in the illicit activity.
This incident has reignited concerns regarding the security of competitive examinations in the state, coming shortly after alleged irregularities in the NEET UG 2026 examination drew widespread attention.
Ensuring Transparency
The examination council stated that despite implementing several security measures in preparation for the TET, particularly in light of previous irregularities, the decision to postpone was necessary. Their primary goal is to ensure that the recruitment process remains fair and transparent for all candidates.
A new date for the Maharashtra TET 2026 examination will be announced on the official website of the Maharashtra State Examination Council once a detailed investigation has progressed and authorities are confident in conducting the test in a completely transparent manner.
